I'm sure several here think I'm the resident gear snob (and I very may well be, I dunno), but I'd like to say that neckthru isn't really worth it.

I mean yeah, it's nicer and all, but generally speaking it's big time bucks, better spent on something like a whole other instrument. Besides the fact that some very high end manufacturers like MTD (basses sell for around $3,000 on the used market) exclusively do bolt-on necks. Blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda.

I guess that makes me the only gear snob around here that know more than you . . . at least with guitars.:loco: I have a Carvin neck-thru that I got custom made for $570 . . . of course that was about 12 years ago. However, you can still get the same guitar custom made for abou $700 or $800 now. Easily the best value in guitars.

Sure, you can get a Carvin that cheap. :loco:

You can get a Euro bolton Spector for about 900 clams, but the same bass, just the neckthrough version, will set you back $1,500. To me, that's worth it. But then you have the Spector USA boltons at about $2,000 and the neckthrough goes for $4,000. That's a whole lot of god damn money.

i have some second choices if this order fucks up

ibanez axs-32
i don't usually like sg style bodies but i've played this, and it plays beautifully. very unlikely to actually get this but i have my eyes on it kinda sorta.

ibanez sz-320
these ALSO play beautifully. but i already have an ibanez rg, maybe it wouild be fun to have something a bit more different

Looks like its probably not a thru neck judging from the style, but ehn. Still an awesome looking guitar. Are those Seymour Duncans in there?
no duncans, sorry... they are peavey's own humbuckas

I like that Ibanez shape better than the SG shape, so don't worry about it looking like an SG. Both those Ibanez's look cool.

How much are you looking to spend? Have you looked at Schecter, or do that have those over there?

Whatever you do don't get a Jackson. Nothing say "I'm a completely unoriginal metalhead" like a Jackson.

NAD: Have you gone to Carvin's shops in the LA area? You should really check there stuff out. It's just amazing quality.

i have looked at schecter and i like them but i don't know if i'm willing to spend $700-ish. maybe more around $400-500. and no, i'm not getting a jackson, or an ESP, or another ibanez RG, or a bc rich, etc. ideally i would want something that is less of a typical "metal" guitar... something warmer, almost approaching les paul or something in tone, but maybe with a sleeker neck/shape. the ibanez SZ or indeed, schecter, seem to be good choices.
