FV agreed and cited dream theater as an example of this phenomenon. So, in essence, FV said that DT are a talented band, but their music (the product) is shit. Since JP is in DT, he is a part of this talented band whose music sucks, and therefore, he is talented, or "the man."
Is that so hard to understand? If it is, I'll illustrate with an example that may be closer to home:
Person 1: "All the members of CoB are incredible, but unfortunately, the music sucks."
Person 2: "Yeah, but Laiho is a good guitar player."
Person 1: "...yeah, that's why I said they were all talented..."
Person 2: "yeah and...."
