I just listen to "The sound of perseverence"...

Hello Beth, thanks for keeping the spirit of your brother alive!!! his work means a lot to me and a lot of people here.

I think The Sound is really weak, compared to Chuck masterpieces Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic, it is so overrated, and the musician team he build for this album is far from being as good as the others musicians who played on album since Human (and Murphy on Spiritual Healing of course).

Besides that, I agree for the production being cool and natural but it is such heresy bass player is playing with pick, after such a great fingered and fretlessed work from DiGiorgio ! (on Symbolic, Conlon is probably playing with pick or not, but his bass sound is not so mixed up on this album, there is no bass break featuring this terrible pick sound ! )

By the way, here is my vote:

1 - Symbolic
2 - Individual
3 - Human (don't like some of the odd riffs on this album, though)
4 - Spiritual Healing (Murphy and Schuldiner guitar duels, so cool)
5 - Leprosy (classic Tampa old school death metal)

Don't care for The Sound and Scream Bloody Gore, sorry !

Kinda old thread, eh? Especially when the question was what do you like about this album.. it's all just matter of opinion.

As far as I remember, DiGiorgio wrote a majority of the bass parts on TSOP but was on tour/unavailable when the studio sessions were booked, so they had Clendenin come in to finish writing the bassparts and record/do the tours. I believe this was the same with Conlon on Symbolic, as the reissue had demos with DiGiorgio playing.

The bass tone on TSOP is fine imo, but on the whole I'm not the biggest fan of the production...guitars are too buzzy, the cymbals have this piercing high-end to them. I thought a lot of the songs were too technical and fancy for their own good, but I enjoy Spirit Crusher, Death and the Power It Holds, and A Moment of Clarity. I felt like The Fragile Art of Existence was a much better follow-up to Symbolic, on the whole.

The last I heard, Christy and DiGiorgio were finishing their parts for the second Control Denied album and Aymar was supposed to fly out and do the vocals so they could finally release it. Not sure what's going on with that though, I believe that was late last year.

I've got some leaked demos Chuck recorded for Control Denied follow up, I don't know if these tracks will appear on this album, there are four of them and this is musically as good as the first album (averagely good, IMHO)

you mean the shitty quality "zero tolerance" demos that piece of shit label karmageddon put out?

as far as I know, all the legal problems are finally resolved and thats why digiorgio and christy were going ahead with finishing their parts on the new control denied. otherwise they weren't allowed access to the tapes, something to that effect.
