The entire Ginger Snaps movie is based on a metaphor. They've tied together the changes a girl goes through with puberty, adolesence, and essentially womanhood, with that of a lycanthrope. Really quite clever, and excellent script. Sequel in the works...

Yeah, I had guessed as much from the reviews and trailers. An interesting idea, I guess the only reason I didn't get it was because the trailer made it look.. well a bit like a cheesy low budget horror film

There was a quick collection of British horror that all got released together - most recently 28 Days Later. Hope this continues. Anyway, the marketing fiends fed off each others flicks, and it paved the way for a resurrgence: The Bunker, Dog Soldiers, 28 Days...etc..

Yeah, many of which I haven't seen yet But I hear 28 days pretty much lifts a lot of it's concepts from David Cronenburgs "Rabid" (which IO have seen), so I would be interested to watch and see the similarities!

I would say Dog Soldiers was low budget: C class actors, VERY dodgy effects...but excellent storyline. So simple: Combine Night of the Living Dead with Aliens, and replace the monster figure with werewolves. Beautiful stuff, and damned expensive on DVD in the states unfortunately ($35!)..

The remake of NotLD is identical, therefore it passes. But I can live without it. Kudos to Tom Savini though, but I wish he would go back to doing what he does best. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't do the FX for the fourth dead movie, Dead Reckoning...

What's the news on this one, is it in the making yet?

TCM should be left untouched. As should Dawn of the Dead. Why they remade Psycho is beyond belief. I think it's just a sign of Hollywood running out of ideas: right now it's all remakes and comic strip characters drenched in CGI.

Even if they remade DotD in the same way they made NotLD? You see, I'm not a huge fan of DotD really, it's cool, but I don't feel strongly enough about it to be that bothered by a remake.. That Psycho remake was.. well, a bit crap! And agreed, Hollywood ran out of ideas (and stopped taking risks, for the most oart) a long time ago, hence all the remakes of foreign films as well as classic ones..

The screenshots I've seen for the new TCM looks just like Scream or I Know what you did last Summer. Chicks in vests, guys straight off the set of Beverly Hills 90210, lots of screaming and loud jerky music....bollocks!

That sounds.. absolute shite! And to think of all the people that will see that one without knowing the original, and probably think it's better.. But at least it should boost sales and get a few more people to see the original than they would do otherwise..

And I'm not sure what you think of Fangoria, but they gave Ginger Snaps their stamp of approval. It is pretty good - but you might want to rent it first if you're dubious.

Dog Soldiers is great. Go get it! It's got Dr Who / Wurzel Gummidge's son in it! (Sean Pertwee). It gets my stamp of approval!

Dark Water and The Eye are the two best horrors I've seen in recent months. Dark Water is especially depressing.

Takeshi Kitano film from '93 Supposedly it's his best.. I'll letacha know what I think, but it looks quite cool!

I was also at the UK premier of Spirited away yesterday, and Anime from the guy behind Princess Mononoke (sp?) :hotjump: It was uber cool!

I was under the impression that disney had bought the rights just so no-one else could release it, as it completely outclassed all of the cartoons they've ever released That's what I'd heard anyway, apprently they've done it with a load of anime to protect their profits.. Along with releasing DVDs that no longer work after 2 years so you have to buy them again just like VHS

Anyway, I highly recomend spirited away, it was just great!

Do you have access to www.half.com in the UK? Just curious, because the DVD's on half.com (part of eBay) seem to be ridiculously cheap. And most of the time, they're brand new.

After a little searching we do have half.com in the UK, but it's stock is minimal to say the least I generally use kelkoo.co.uk to search for a title and then buy the cheapest, it works quite well most of the time That's how I got Hana-Bi from play.com for £5.99 instead of £21 from Amazon!

I'm still trying to work out how to get my player hacked tho, I've found one way using a phillips pronto remote, but as I have one that isn't much help.. Any suggestions?

I told you. I have to say though, I found Dark Water to be really fucking depressing as well, just because I've got a little girl. Man, that scene in the elevator at the end....just gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

How they got the kids to act like that I'll never know. These Japanese directors have some magic touch, I hope the kids weren't too traumatized.

Oh and Hana Bi is indeed amazing, it's a very personal film. It documents the last months of a marriage between Takeshi Kitano and his dying wife, the guilt of two of his police colleagues dying when he was on the force, and how he turned to crime as his wife became more ill.. Very touching..

Plus I saw classics like A Nightmare On Elm Street, The Thing etc., the entire Kevin Smith series, Hellraiser 5:Inferno, and a load of other films. I also baught a hell of a load of Takeshi Kitano and other asian films cheap in an HMV sale, I'll let you know what I think of them as I watch..

Another element is the sound editing. It's incredible how so much atmosphere is built upon drips of water and the bashing of the metal water tank on the roof (where she keeps seeing the red purse). Just fucking brilliant - easily one of the best Asian films IMO.

The Thing is Carpenters best ever - yep, I think it's better than Halloween. There's a new directors cut of Halloween coming out by the way with two documentaries (on Anchor Bay)

Hellraiser II is the best one, Kevin Smith rules, but Mallrats sucks balls, and the next film on my must see list is Freddy v Jason although it will probably fail on every level and then some.
