It was in the forest, same place I went last month. This weekend is dubbed "Phil's Last Stand." Basically, all his best friends headed out to his camping spot in the Olympic Mountains for the weekend. In all, there were probably 20 people out there at one point. Phil and all his friends are big in mountaineering and survival camping and mountain biking, so we had some cool plans for this trip. The coolest was a hike we did up to a place called "Eagle Lake". About 7 people rode their bikes up and 4 of us (including me) hiked on foot. The hike is 6.0 miles one way over a 3,000ft elevation gain. Not overly difficult, but long and very tedious. More on the hike later.
Here are some pics I took. I think a lof of these ones are better than the ones from the last time I went out here. I tried not to take too many of the same kind of pics since it was so recent that I was there last.
As always, goodbye Seattle!
As usual, we got to the campsite at nightfall so I didn't take any pics the rest of the night. This was the first thing I saw when I woke up in the morning at 8:15am (shit, that's early for me!).
Let's have some breakfast before the hike! We had bacon dogs and bacon and egg sammiches.
Myself and two other friends had a really nice campsite kind of away from the rest of the crowd. It was a nice cozy little spot on the edge of a cliff that goes down to the river.
This is one of my favorite pics of the weekend. Nick doing some fishing down below our campsite.
The following pics are from the hike up to Eagle Lake. This is the longest hike I've ever done and still today my feet are killing me. I had tons of fun though, and now I'm ready to invest in some hiking boots.
Even though Phil's face is blurry, this is my other favorite pic of the weekend.
This sign was about half a mile from our destination.
The very end of the hike is an ultra steep descent of about 500ft down towards the lake. I was so glad that coming back up that nasty hill was going to be the FIRST part of the hike back, and not the last. This next pic isn't the greatest, but it does show how far above the lake we were.
Down at the lake.
