Just going to throw this out there. Saw Icarus Witch for the first time on Friday night in Raleigh and i said to myself, they are better than the opening bands on the last 3 PP's easily. Not a total slight against those bands, but whatever. Anyone who has seen IW on this tour will most likely agree.

They REALLY need to be considered. The new album smokes and they kill it live, especially on lead vocals. I was thoroughly impressed.

well they have that being from the U,S, thing going against them. HAHA

LOL ok so we know you are aware of bands in the U.S.; so let's have a U.S. day.

There are bands all over the U.S. that are just as good and in some cases better than any imports. And some times the chances of seeing those bands is just as slim as x Euro band; um... Solitude Aeturnus comes to mind. I would say this would have been the case with Sanctuary.
Ok let's stop this before it goes any further.
So what about the idea of Warlord at Progpower? I never see them talked about in this form but cannot deny they would not fit the bill, and they just happen to be another U.S. band that there will probably not be much more of a chance to see them in the U.S.

as far as bands go, the major draw for *me* as well as a lot of other people i know is the bands from overseas being a part of the fest. I would hate to miss out on Anubis Gate, Headspace, Circus Maximus, Pagan's Mind, for a U.S. day, a couple of U.S. bands would be fine that would actually draw, Arch/Matheos being the biggest out of all the bands that haven't already played the fest. i think (and i'm guilty of it too with the European bands for example Malison Rogue, great band that i would love to see play the fest, but would they draw? Probably not) that we build up in our minds what a big draw a band like Warlord would be (I haven't thought of them in years and I'm a HUGE Mark Zonder fan), but is that speaking as a promoter who gets hundreds of requests for Warlord or Widow (a great band I saw on the UTPOM tour, but not ready for Center Stage, in my opinion), or is it because you're a fan and want to see them yourself? There's nothing wrong with that..I do it too with other bands. Maybe as a Wednesday night band in the Loft, but not at Center Stage, unless it was as an opener. just my 2 cents

This, but it depends on the band. Not to mention, it probably looks better for the festival (in international eyes) to not have a whole US day, or a shitload of US bands on the lineup.

Not sure if that would "draw" like you're saying...

LOL, they'd draw less people than Rage has members.

You are ridiculous. Widow plays more shows than 80% of the bands that play ProgPowerr, including some headliners. They've toured around the world and have been around for over 10 years. Sorry Matt, but what are you basing yourself on? That's an absurd statement. Widow is not ready but what, Malison Rouge is? Please... If you don't think the style fits the fest is one thing, but don't dare say Widow isn't "ready."

By "not ready" I mean from a draw standpoint, not talent at all, and yeah Malison Rogue isn't there either, but who knows? In the end Glenn knows the marketplace better than anyone and I wouldn't second guess him. As for Arch Matheos, they sold out the Webster Theater in May, and I think they would draw well as PPUSA is their target audience, but in the end, if Glenn doesn't like them, they don't get booked.

But to be fair, my one opportunity to see Widow was in front of 20 people in NYC on a Tuesday night as a part of a package tour. So it's probably not the best barometer to measure their drawing power, plus, I've got a ton of albums to review and I haven't heard the new Icarus Witch or the latest Widow album so perhaps I would feel differently once I did.

I think Matt's original point was lost in the shuffle, but I absolutely agree that the new and improved Icarus Witch would go over well as an opener. No they're not from Europe and no they're not going to draw new people, but is that really expected of an opening band? They'd add a different musical aspect to the overall fest, and put on a hell of a show. That and they'd be a cheap addition.

And as much as I love Widow, they're a band that's best experienced in a club on a small stage. It would just be weird seeing them on that huge stage.
