Holy Hell, things just couldn't be goofier or glitchier for this show. I know this was the first show, so hopefully, this is the only night with all these problems. Brace yourselves, I am NOT giving a sugar-coated fanboy show review, I am full-out bitching about this. You've been warned.
#1 - Monitors DIED for Stu during, well, ALL of Into Eternity's set. And it's a fuckin shame, cuz Stu was sounding AWESOME last night! He'd do the growling and screeching in the middle of the stage, and then have to run to the side and slam his ear against the sidewash monitors. He just stood there, looking ridiculous, with his head against a speaker cab. Fuckin shame. I hate Harpo's for many, MANY reasons. Chaulk up SHIT MONITORS to that already enormous list. And Stu sounded so fuckin good except for that, crying shame....
#2 - COMPLETELY FUCKED UP GUITARS FOR ICED EARTH. Holy god damned hell, I was ready to jump onto the FOH sound guy and break his fuckin neck, because the whole show, THE WHOLE SHOW, none of us could hear even one guitar solo. Troy Seele could obviously hear himself on stage, cuz he played away without skipping a beat. As soon as the solos came, nothing. NOOOOTHIIIIING!!! Unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable that an international touring band can't have a venue nor a sound guy that knows what the FUCK to do. HEY! Jackass! Use the fucking slider labeled LEAD GUITAR!!!
But what I think was the clue, was the HORRIBLE, I mean HORRIBLE radio noise between every song. LOUD. Far too loud to be just a noisy amp. That's not what a noisy amp sounds like. That's the sound of SOMETHING BROKE. Jon was furious and visibly pissed as he shouted to someone side-stage. Roger thinks it was Jon's amp causing problems, cuz it was too hot and way overpowering in the mix, and he was getting undesirable feedback every time he stopped. Not musical, usable guitar feedback, the sqwauking screeching kind that says TURN IT DOWN! But the noisy static is what concerns me. I really wonder, cuz the guys don't do their channel-changing on stage, they have their guitar techs switching amp channels and effects and stuff, and I wonder if Troy even knows his shit was that quiet and useless out in front.
It's brutally horrible to see a band ready to destroy your face for you, and then have these unbearable glitches. So I say to the road crew of Iced Earth, FIX YOUR SHIT BEFORE ATLANTA!!! PP crew, if you hear any radio noise, find a way to fix it above all else. Do whatever you gotta do, man. PLEASE be ready for snafu's once they get there.
Oh, and some of the local openers got treated like shit, too. They couldn't get the first band started because of some soundboard issue, and made them stand there and wait like idiots. Then once they started, cut their set short cuz Harpos' crew can't get their shit to work. HARPO'S SUCKS. Always has, always will.
By the way.....
BARLOW WILL DESTROY YOU ALL.
Just make note, Matt really likes to pull the mic away from him for his high notes, and he tends to drop out of the mix quite drastically. Guys, keep his mic nice and hot so we hear him loud and proud. But man oh man, he's still just as evil as ever...
