Iced Earth Detroit report.... FIX YOUR BROKEN CRAP!!!

Bryan316

METAL... nuff said!
Holy Hell, things just couldn't be goofier or glitchier for this show. I know this was the first show, so hopefully, this is the only night with all these problems. Brace yourselves, I am NOT giving a sugar-coated fanboy show review, I am full-out bitching about this. You've been warned.

#1 - Monitors DIED for Stu during, well, ALL of Into Eternity's set. And it's a fuckin shame, cuz Stu was sounding AWESOME last night! He'd do the growling and screeching in the middle of the stage, and then have to run to the side and slam his ear against the sidewash monitors. He just stood there, looking ridiculous, with his head against a speaker cab. Fuckin shame. I hate Harpo's for many, MANY reasons. Chaulk up SHIT MONITORS to that already enormous list. And Stu sounded so fuckin good except for that, crying shame....

#2 - COMPLETELY FUCKED UP GUITARS FOR ICED EARTH. Holy god damned hell, I was ready to jump onto the FOH sound guy and break his fuckin neck, because the whole show, THE WHOLE SHOW, none of us could hear even one guitar solo. Troy Seele could obviously hear himself on stage, cuz he played away without skipping a beat. As soon as the solos came, nothing. NOOOOTHIIIIING!!! Unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable that an international touring band can't have a venue nor a sound guy that knows what the FUCK to do. HEY! Jackass! Use the fucking slider labeled LEAD GUITAR!!!

But what I think was the clue, was the HORRIBLE, I mean HORRIBLE radio noise between every song. LOUD. Far too loud to be just a noisy amp. That's not what a noisy amp sounds like. That's the sound of SOMETHING BROKE. Jon was furious and visibly pissed as he shouted to someone side-stage. Roger thinks it was Jon's amp causing problems, cuz it was too hot and way overpowering in the mix, and he was getting undesirable feedback every time he stopped. Not musical, usable guitar feedback, the sqwauking screeching kind that says TURN IT DOWN! But the noisy static is what concerns me. I really wonder, cuz the guys don't do their channel-changing on stage, they have their guitar techs switching amp channels and effects and stuff, and I wonder if Troy even knows his shit was that quiet and useless out in front.

It's brutally horrible to see a band ready to destroy your face for you, and then have these unbearable glitches. So I say to the road crew of Iced Earth, FIX YOUR SHIT BEFORE ATLANTA!!! PP crew, if you hear any radio noise, find a way to fix it above all else. Do whatever you gotta do, man. PLEASE be ready for snafu's once they get there.

Oh, and some of the local openers got treated like shit, too. They couldn't get the first band started because of some soundboard issue, and made them stand there and wait like idiots. Then once they started, cut their set short cuz Harpos' crew can't get their shit to work. HARPO'S SUCKS. Always has, always will.

By the way.....

BARLOW WILL DESTROY YOU ALL.

Just make note, Matt really likes to pull the mic away from him for his high notes, and he tends to drop out of the mix quite drastically. Guys, keep his mic nice and hot so we hear him loud and proud. But man oh man, he's still just as evil as ever...

Can't remember every one of them, nor the correct order...

But....

STORMRIDER!!!

In Sacred Flames
Behold the Wicked Child
Declaration Day (and Matt just shredded that poor song into self-destruction with extreme prejudice, I cried tears of joy... \m/ )
Vengeance Is Mine
Burning Times
Watching Over Me
I Walk Alone
Come What May
10,000 Strong
Motivation of Man
Setian Massacre
Hold At All Costs
High Water Mark
Dracula

Melancholy
My Own Savior
Iced Earth

hmm no Stand Alone in that set list?? or I Died for You??? Good set list otherwise.

Heck no Pure Evil or The Coming Curse which I thought was shocking! But, they gotta lotta material from the two new albums to share. A few came off awesome live, a few kinda just felt like fillers. But 10,000 Strong, with the strobes flashing away, FUUUUUCK.

Barlow just decimated us with Declaration Day. DAMN DAMN DAMN.

To anyone who wants to know, Into Eternity's set list in no particular order for the Detroit show was:

Beginning of the End
Splintered Visions :headbang:
Severe Emotional Distress :kickass:
Nothing
Tides of Blood
Diagnosis Terminal
Time Immemorial
Timeless Winter

Did anyone else notice that a few of the Gettysburg tunes made it into Iced Earth's the set, or am I the only one that think's that is awesome?

I'd agree that of the new songs, Crucify the King is the one I'd want to hear them play. Too bad I won't see them on this leg of the tour.

Decent set. It's got changes that I don't necessarily want to see come ProgPower. I need Pure Evil when they play ProgPower. I've seen it on every setlist they've done until this one. It's my all time favorite Iced Earth song, so I really want to see it. I'm also alarmed at the lack of Travel in Stygian....even with the addition of Stormrider, I would also like to see Desciples of the Lie or The Hunter.

I hadn't seen Matt with IE before, only Ripper. I'm not on the "Ripper is worthless BRRRALOW 4 LIFE" bandwagon, but I have to say Matt put on an awesome show and was more metal than Ripper.

I suspect fans of IE will have an awesome time for their set, depending on where they're standing. One thing that irks me about PP (maybe the only thing) is the mostly stationary crowd during songs that should force headbanging. I remember during Brainstorm I was rocking out to Shiva's tears and someone kept tapping me on the back, so I ignored them and turned around after the song.
them: "asgasgahkl;astrsar"
me: "what?"
them: "YOU'RE IN MY SPOT. I WAS TAKING PICTURES"
me: "um...."

and it was near the front, not an actual photographer or anything. I don't know, it just seems like the crowd is too focused on writing pictured reviews for their websites and not enjoying the show at the time. This has gone totally off topic. IE ruled when I saw them live.

PP crew, if you hear any radio noise, find a way to fix it above all else. Do whatever you gotta do, man. PLEASE be ready for snafu's once they get there.

We'll do what we can.... thanks for the heads up ! :kickass::headbang:
