Iced Earth Detroit report.... FIX YOUR BROKEN CRAP!!!

I reckon its the new way to enjoy the show. At Monsters of Rock, I brought a camera and had a few middle fingers and unwelcomed guests jump into my pictures. At the end of the day, I did get a few nice pictures but decided against repeating the experiment.

QUOTE=Megawozniak;7637422]I hadn't seen Matt with IE before, only Ripper. I'm not on the "Ripper is worthless BRRRALOW 4 LIFE" bandwagon, but I have to say Matt put on an awesome show and was more metal than Ripper.

I suspect fans of IE will have an awesome time for their set, depending on where they're standing. One thing that irks me about PP (maybe the only thing) is the mostly stationary crowd during songs that should force headbanging. I remember during Brainstorm I was rocking out to Shiva's tears and someone kept tapping me on the back, so I ignored them and turned around after the song.
them: "asgasgahkl;astrsar"
me: "what?"
them: "YOU'RE IN MY SPOT. I WAS TAKING PICTURES"
me: "um...."

and it was near the front, not an actual photographer or anything. I don't know, it just seems like the crowd is too focused on writing pictured reviews for their websites and not enjoying the show at the time. This has gone totally off topic. IE ruled when I saw them live.[/QUOTE]

My wife and I were going to do to the IE show in Detroit last night. At the last minute, we couldn't. Reading your review, I'm glad.

Into Eternity must be cursed. They had that same problem when they played The Pearl Room a few months ago, as warm-up for Symphony X. Their sound was terrible -- when it worked. Most of the time, they had to all sing out of one mic that often cut out on them. I feel terrible for Into Eternity. They deserve a break somewhere along the way. Their new album is quite good, actually.

Bottom line: Sound seems to be the biggest stumbling block for bands, venues, and festivals these days -- which is sad because energy, charism, chops, and a killer album won't do shit for a band if the sound sucks.

I hope Iced Earth's sound improves...which, no doubt, it will when they pull their show into ProgPower USA in a few days.

Thanks for the review!

<All of these should be cool>

Watching Over Me
<Like it. Know Jon will keep playing it. Still ... yawn.>

<2/3rds of Gettysburg - awesome. An amazing trilogy, and I can't wait to compare Matt to Ripper. Owens was stunning on these live>

Dracula
<Perhaps my favorite IE song, highlighting everything Matt can do. I can't wait>

Anytime you get a band with a huge catalog, there are unhappy people. This set list has some great stuff, but is heavy on the last two albums (and yet no 'Clouding' - odd). I can understand giving Horror Show only one song. I LOVE that album, but I know a lot of people don't. However, only one for The Dark Saga? That's just wrong.

Hey, these are nitpicks. I can't wait to see Barlow live for the first time.

I know exactly what you mean, dude. As much as I'm looking forward to IE's set, its things like this that I know are gonna annoy the shit out of me.

Decent set. It's got changes that I don't necessarily want to see come ProgPower. I need Pure Evil when they play ProgPower. I've seen it on every setlist they've done until this one. It's my all time favorite Iced Earth song, so I really want to see it. I'm also alarmed at the lack of Travel in Stygian....even with the addition of Stormrider, I would also like to see Desciples of the Lie or The Hunter.

Totally agreed on Pure Evil...jesus we really need this.. =(

I also disagree with having 2/3 of Gettysburg on this tour. I got to see Gettysburg in its entirety with Owens. It was superb. But now I want to see a Barlow epic. Give me the original Something Wicked trilogy or (I would fucking go nuts...)...DANTE'S INFERNO.

I heard on another forum that they played Curse The Sky...I was shocked to see that, can anyone confirm? Sadly, I won't be able to catch IE this time around...did Jon mention anything about a 2nd leg in the US? Hopefully they'll play in Grand Rapids again, there were no sound issues at The Intersection.

Ooohhh...Curse the Sky??? That would rule...some really old school stuff like "Colors" or "When the Night Falls" would also be very very welcome.

I just don't want so much Ripper material as sung by Barlow. I want Barlow material as sung by Barlow (I've never fucking seen IE with Matt)!!!

Agreed .. not enough classics in there for my tastes. As someone mentioned above I'd really like to hear Burnt Offerings. It seems they never play it live, but it's one I'd almost kill to hear.

*making a mental note to not stand by or near Britt during IE's set just in case they play Burnt Offerings.
