So I'm not through the whole CD yet but I'm already getting a little tired of the "ruler slapping a piece of paper" sounding kick drum. Is it just me or does it also not get turned down much during the fast parts.

Kinda reminds me of how the snare transients on the Animals As Leaders Album is so loud it's distracting, same issue.

Music wise it's cool though, Stu is great!

Anguish of Youth is my favorite so far. I won't criticize the album mix-wise but I'd prefer a different kick indeed. Last but not least, Stu is the man! I really liked his vocals on the album.

It´s the best album since horror show but still a weak album IMO. There are some very good riff here and there but the structures are very simple. And the album is not worst because the vocal work is fucking amazing. The new singer is really good. The bass and the kick sucks hard.

Agreed, for the most part. I love Stu's vocals, but but I think Jon was pushing him to sound too much like Barlow in the lower vocal registers/range. My only other complaint is the kick drum as well. Other than that, I definitely agree this is the best album since Horror Show.

about 1/2 through it now ...

Stu is as great as I knew he'd be

the kick drum sound is not as bad as everyone is making it out to be ... its really a minor thing

overall the sound is really nice. The songs are better overall than they've been for a while but I'm getting a little bored. The most exciting thing I've heard besides Stu's performance is the tasty little up-tempo break in the middle of "Dark City". Has a really classy, fast Maiden sound to it. Maybe it'll pick up a little for the rest of the cd. I'm just not really hearing anything ferocious yet and it almost seems like a coupe of the songs were cut off at the knees. There's no actual development or journey happening

anyway, those are my thoughts

EDIT: And talk about some BORING solos! Wow

Indeed, 80% of the time I think am hearing Matt.

I heard the whole album 2 times and I find a weak album, it´s not much more weak because of Stu. The songs are quite simple, some of them dont have 3 minutes and without interludes, just verse, chorus, verse, chorus. WTF? this was the band that wrote one of the most epic songs of all time without boring repetitions. Dante´s inferno. And what a fuck it´s going on with song Days Of Rage? Seems like a fail version of Violate. Yeah dont talk about solos, ultra technical without feeling.:puke: Schaffer is becoming old and it seems his riffs are getting really tired.

The whole Album is somehow paper sounding. Think Stu´s voice deserves a better production. This drums again. The vocal performance is outstanding. But all in all, the best songs since Something wicked.
