Ignorance is bliss in this picture?

But it's not that simple. If you pay an illegal $1 an hour to pick fruit, but have to pay an American worker $15 an hour, plus health benefits, you've just driven the prices of fruit through the roof. Once that happens, we'll have people screaming that fruit is one of the four basic food groups, and it should be affordable to all people, not just the wealthy...........
interesting but not accurate. the economy is based on demand. if the price of fruit goes through the roof, we'll fucking stop buying it. people will go out of work. it's happened throughout American history countless times. take a look at gasoline. it's approaching $3/gallon here. people are still driving 4-door 4x4 pickups without a care in the world. there is a point though, where people will just say, "ahh fuck it. im walking". it may be upwards of $10/gallon but that price point is there somewhere.
your comment on langauge sounds like youre assuming no one here speaks any language other than english. i speak french and the wife speaks spanish. that doesnt mean we dont think mexicans should have to speak english. every other immigrant does without complaint. whens the last time you saw a vietnamese bitching about anything? thats right. never.

Remove all the illegal immigrants from the economy and it collapses. Bit of a catch 22 here.
nah. hire LEGAL immigrants and the tax base expands by a huge margin. everyone is happy. these people are using resources paid for by tax payers while at the same time, not paying anyting into the system. it's pretty simple.

Im not really even disagreeing with you honestly.

yeah, i think everyone who is american's problem is that these are ILLEGAL immigrants demanding the same rights as LEGAL immigrants without having to pay anything back.

If they paid taxes and were legal, i'm sure nobody would have a problem with them working for 25 cents a day.

Minimum wage in this country is fucking disgusting, it is one of the most insane things about this place. You cannot fucking live off slave wages and for those of you who have worked retail like I did for several years, I'm sure you have met extremely hard working people that really don't have anywhere else to go, whether it be a physical or mental deficiency, or something else that truly holds them back from "bettering" themselves.

You can debate welfare to either side until the cows come home but COME THE FUCK ON, you cannot possibly argue against raising minimum wage. Unless of course you are some heartless CEO who only cares about the bottom line.

Raising the minimum wage is a catalyst for cutting jobs. Say you own a retail store and are able to afford 7 workers at $7 an hour. Raising the minimum wage $1, would result in the need to ax one of those 7 workers.

Not every business is a gigantic fortune 500 company. Don't forget the mom and pop stores that have a couple hired hands. They are barely able to cut rent as it is.

the workers control the means of production.

anyone here with kids knows that the cost of child care is fucking massive. you get a single mom trying to work a job at even ten dollars an hour, with only one kid, and it is almost impossible for her to make ends meet. So they look for a bargain, and probably end up with some bint trying to watch 10 or 12 kids by herself (impossible) or a child abuser...it's a vicious cycle. I've seen women break down in tears trying to find ways to work and still have someone look after the ankle biters.

My wife and I basically decided that she would stay home and do home schooling.

Dear Federal Government:

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

5. Schools need to include classes on Ame rican culture and history.

6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.

13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P

In your opinion.

Next you're going to tell me it's also based on supply. Fascinating.

Have you been to a supermarket? Have you noticed that whole big section they dedicate to produce? Do you think if you simply removed it from the US economy, there'd be no repercussions? Do you think there'd be no consequences to the health of the nation? My point was, the effects of illegals is one of macroeconomics and great complexity.

My comment on language assumes no such thing. Rather, it's your misunderstanding of my comment that draws that conclusion. My comment addressed folks who haven't travelled internationally. And even at that, I didn't say "all", I said "most".

I never suggested that all bilingual people feel one way about this issue.

Are we talking about people who have sucessfully immigrated here or are we talking about illegals? I was talking about illegals.

Zod

it might also be of interest to note that many of those demonstrators may not be illegals at all but friends and family members and regular concerned citizens. One part of the at-first proposed reforms would have made it a felony to give aid to an illegal. WTF? If I found some dehydrated mex on my back steps I'm not supposed to give him a bottle of water?

this thread has contained so many generalizations and stereotypes I'm laughing.

Whether the demonstrators are legals, friends, family, homosexual cousins, it makes no difference. Like I've said a few times, and people have no answer, these people are protesting for FUCKING PEOPLE THAT SHOULD NOT BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!

How does that make sense? So now are we gonna have a protest for fucking illegal Lithuanians so they can get a free ride? Fuck, man, c'mon.

The mexicans had a big protest shebang on campus moday, and then we have $2000 stuff stolen at our apartment probably by the mexican workers, fuckin shite. 99% sure they're illegal hires for cheap by our apt complex. Who's wrong: the mexicans for being illegal and thiefs or the apt complex for hiring them?

As far as the produce is concerned. You can literally wipe produce from the market and not receieve a big impact. Look at the average american citizen. Does it look like they eat fucking FRUITS AND VEGETABLES!?!?! Hell if the illegal's were the main part of the hamburger flipping work force, sure we'd all be in deep shit. But I find it hard to believe that being devoid of kiwi and 99 cent sidewalk taco stands would severely cripple us. Hell the farmers could be subsidized by the millions of dollars that will be saved from not having to support the moochercans. Stop with this humanitarian way of thinking. "Oh the poor mexican is at my door in need of water after his 3,000 mile hike to Ohio." Boo fucking hoo. Sure I'm not all fucked up, he could have some hose water, right after he's done gardening!

In short- GET THE FUCK OF OUR LAND!!!! And by "OUR", I mean every tax paying citizen who is here the right way. That is who this land belongs to. Not some person who has 1/64th blood of some indigenous group who got slaughtered centuries before.

Oh and as far as the single mother who can't afford to get child care. Uhh shouldn't she of thought of this while Jimmy Hoosenbach was plowing her pubic garden several years ago? There needs to be consequences to people's actions. You can't just expect to fuck away your life and have the U.S Government alleviate the stress. Find a way you dumb bitch! No wonder why the father high tailed it out of dodge!
