I'm addicted to Mass Effect

It is pretty exceptional the way it explains things.. definitely not par for the course. Most of it makes more sense than your average sci-fi too.. all the bits about the Normandy are cool as hell, how it goes stealth, how the mass effect works, and all that.

I just beat the game today. I feel a bit sad because I want more! haha. I miss the characters already. I'm such a nerd. Plus I have this crazy unexplainable boner for 80's sci-fi synth music now.

The Soundtrack is awesome!! I would like to have it on my htc, anybody knows, if there is a original soundtrack to buy?

edit: Hahaha okay, it´s already ordered.

I think the guy who did Mass Effect's sound track watched Blade Runner over and over and over

I dunno, Mass Effect's soundtrack was great in the cinematics, but the in game music left me totally cold, which was a bit disappointing considering all I'd heard about it. The sweeping orchestral melodies in the cutscenes were awesome though. And I HIGHLY doubt ME2 is coming out this year, if so we're talking like November. :erk:

I wasn't impressed by the music at first, but then it grew on me. I mean I still don't think it's mind blowing, but I couldn't imagine anything else, really. The song at the end during the credits its pretty snazzy, too.

Yea I had to go check the band out on myspace and stuff, and even bought that song from Itunes. The vocals I'm still getting used to, and the snare sounds wacky, but I love that palm muted thing the guitars do throughout the song, not to mention those bladerunner/terminator synths!

But yea, in case you didn't catch the name of the band or if anyone else is curious, the band is called Faunts and the song is called M4, pt2.

Ah fuck it, heres the video.

Haha actually I googled for a Mass Effect2 thread in the off topic tavern, but I found this and decided to excavate it.

After some trouble because of the lack of RPG elements in Mass Effect 2 - I finally can say the following....I LOVE THIS GAME! :) Story & action elements are totally awesome. What do you think about this continuation? Please don´t spoil me, I´m just in the middle of the game.

Absolutely amazing. After I finish it all I could think about was how bad I wanted the third game to come out next week.

I think they´ve kept the quality level on the main quest. Not as epic as the first one, but definitely epic, and they´ve improved A LOT the side missions (the squad members missions are top notch in terms of writting). What I liked the most is that they´ve removed tons of bullshit of the first one. I mean, the car parts, planet exploration, tons of equipment for each member of the squad (special ammo, armor upgrade, etc), tons of useless weapons, etc.

The new system is much better. There are like 2 weapons of each type in the whole game and is dead obvious which one is better, so you don´t have to keep comparing charts. The customizable armor skin is also cool as you don´t have to walk around on a terrible outft just because the cool black one is shit in terms of defense. I also loved how the class determines the weapons you can use instead of which you can upgrade. The special powers are awesome too, I played as a Vanguard and loved the rush thing. They really improved a lot on everything. System, gameplay, combat, graphics, classes... I wish they could remake the first one using this new system.

They also did a great job on the new races. Awesome design. IMO The Mass Effect universe pwns any other sci-fi universe ever written or filmed. The only thing I missed was the citadel epicness. On the first one there were tons of side-missions, embassis, statues, the round atmosphere. It felt like the center of the universe, where all races and cultures converged. On the second game is just a small bunch of corridors.

Well spoken, sir! As far I can rate it, I absolutely agree with your points. It makes A LOT of fun, even more than the first episode. I hated these copy paste levels in the side missions. The action is much better and I love how I can interact with the L or R trigger while conversations. I can tell you, I´m a bad ass motherfucker with lots of shiny scars on my face :kickass: I love the brutality and the dramatic in this game. Unfortunately the Citadell isn´t more that what it has been, you´re right. Nevertheless - awesome game!

I just beat ME2 yesterday. I loved it, but to me it seemed like they cut out a little too much from the first game. True, the Mako stuff did get a bit repetitive on the first game, and the side missions were pretty lame considering how alike they were, but the sense of exploration is gone now. One of my favorite parts of the first game was the fact that you could land on a planet in some distant nebula, and actually explore it and walk around and stuff. I was hoping for ME2 that they would improve this feature and add some variance to perfect a great idea, but instead they totally removed it!

I was also hugely disappoint with the Citadel. It was my favorite place on the first game, so I saved it for last in ME2, completing every side mission and probing every planet I could before basically being forced to go there. Then I found that all you get is a few corridors and a warehouse. And don't get me started on how the presidium was downgraded to basically a balcony with a view. Bloodrage!

And what happened to the technology from the first game where you never run out of ammo? There were a few cases where I completed ran out of ammo in a firefight and had to rely completely on directing my team member's powers while my powers where recharging. One of these cases was during the fight with the final boss! I made it out of that one by the skin of my teeth.

If I weren't already such a fanboy these would be hard issues to get past, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed each of the 41 hours I spent with ME2.

I'd give it an 8/10.

EDIT: One other personal factor that sucked for me, is that I don't have a high def TV, and the text is so small in the codex entries that I had to strain to read it, no matter how close I got to the screen, so I had to skip over a ton of text stuff if it didn't have narration, unless it was crutial to the story or so interesting that I felt fine straining my eyes to stumble through the text. Time for a new TV.

I browsed through this thread and I'm convinced I need to play through the ME series.

If it's being compared to Deus Ex and KOTOR it sure as fuck must be AT LEAST a good game...
