"i'm going to wacken" <--- you? then rahvin loves you

I propose that the DT name tags so conveniently available in a PKZIP® archive should be worn by any and all DT forum members on Wacken.

to get back to the initial question: what would be the reason to visit wacken? the lineup is like :puke: compared to other, smaller, cheaper festivals in the area...

Because your friends persuaded you to go. It's not like I plan to be sober enough to see all that many bands anyway. :p

But anyway, there's
1. Testament
2. Dark Angel
3. Slayer
4. Testament
5. Carpathian Forest
6. Testament
7. Testament
8. Thyrfing
9. Testament
10. Testament
and
11. Testament.

That's a pretty good line-up in my eyes. Also, this bus package thingie with the ticket price included makes it much cheaper than going to pretty much any other festival. I calculated that even Sweden Rock Festival, a pretty cruddy rock/metal festival in SWEDEN, would've cost me MORE money to go to than it costs me to go to Wacken. The return trip via bus incl. the ticket to Wacken from here is around €209 IIRC. That's pretty alright with me.

Yeah, I read that. I didn't realize Dork Funeral were replacing them though... If so, that really sucks. First show in ages and all... Anyway, I guess Testament and Slayer will provide enough thrashin'.

yes, testament is a more than average reason to go. plus a couple of other small bands i'm really interested in seeing live.
anyway, i've been persuaded to go by friends too. the point is not a single one of them travels with me.

...somebody please explain to me what is to like in Testament???

they give out a free cookie with every record? :p

i think they're pretty good thrashers and the singer's got a great voice. the older stuff was at the same time melodic, heavy and insanely fast. then they exploited a rather soft vein and they were good at that too. the new stuff is slightly less personal imo, but it retains many a technical quality. :)

"Il Testamento é molte male"

uh huh...I wasn't impressed by what I've listened of them...maybe it was the bland stuff...recommend something to download and check...

testament doesn't mean testamento, it's a false friend. a testamento is somebody's last will, while a testament is like a testimony. :p

anyway... download burnt offerings, disciples of the watch, sins of omission, the ballad, d.n.r. (do not resuscitate), alone in the dark, trial by fire.

all. :D
if you want, uhm, old school thrash, try to download something from "the legacy", "the new order" and "souls of black".
anyway, get "the gathering" now. just for the line-up. :p

@rahvin: why, instead of going to hamburg, don't you get a plane to stockholm and travel to wacken by bus with all the swedes? :p

Really good choices... "Over The Wall" and "Eerie Inhabitants" also.

i didn't even know one could take seriously a record named "do not resuscitate"

You should probably read the lyrics. Or something. I reckon they're decent. At least it (being from their latest album) is somewhat more serious than tracks like Raging Waters or First Strike Is Deadly off their debut. Still, it's thrash (fukkin') metal. If you seek great sophistication, seek it elsewhere. :p

@rahvin, where in Wacken should we meet then :p?

hard to decide beforehand... i'll pm you my cellphone number shortly so we can keep in touch once we're there. i bet there'll be plenty of um forum members we'd want to meet: it might be worthy to set some sort of rally point. ;)
