I have had a bass guitar for a few years and can't seem to learn it by myself.

I love music and have always liked the bass. I'm hoping that I can get pointed in the right direction.

I am not new to music by any means. I am a Grade 3 Pianist and have improved the sound of many bands with my keyboard but the time is right to learn a stringed instrument.

Discuss.

Make sure to find a decent school/instructor (not some cheap music store, they teach you jack shit). Also, get that "Bass Fitness" book. Full of good exercizes but I warn you: it IS hard on the hands, even for someone who wanks as much as you do!
Good luck.

LOL, Sorry, i find this thread pretty funny..

Profanity, you're a fanny, but best of luck to you man.

Bass isn't hard at all. Learn to read tab. Sit down with a tab and just read it and play it till you've got it. That's how i learned guitar.

Don't pay for tuition...

there is nothing you cant learn from a book in bass, tuition is a waste of money.

You could say that about practically every instrument.

Some people find it hard to discipline themselves and need someone to push them in the right direction.

I guess it's comparable to learning languages. Some people can easily do it by themselves whereas others achieve their full potential if they are taught. It doesn't mean they are any less enthusiastic.

It's not always about disciplin.
Of course there's a great deal, but for things like ear training to learn, say, violin, it's a little harder, not to say impossible, to learn it by yourself

I didn't say every instrument and all the good musicians i've ever spoken to have said "you learn more in half an hour with other musicians than you do in years of learning from books".
