Yep, so was Henke Foss, both 94-95 altrhough I'm not sure they ever recorded anything with either them aside from one or two rare E.P's which would no doubt be worth a lot of money in certain circles..

Yeah Burst's music is absolutely fantastic. The only thing holding them down from being a fantastic band (I think they're a great band) is the brutal vocals, which are a bit too hardcore-like for me (I have the same problem with Mastodon, the brutal vocals hold the band down, although Burst > Mastodon anyway).

Have you heard them on album? I saw them live with Opeth first, and their sound really stinked. Like you said, dischordant noise, all you could basically hear was the drumming, the screaming and a wall of guitar noise. But on their latest album, it's a world of difference. Really great sound.
