ok, its someone own opinion but ive heard it all now, an opeth forum where some one complains about moshing AT AN OPETH GIG.
that has to be the most dumb thread ive ever read, i feel that it was an insult to my ass as it was forced to sit here while i wasted my time reading it.
moshing is part and parcel of this kind of music, i actually feel sorry for someone who feels they had to complain about moshing at a gig, and another ridiculous point is that moshing is for kids, ha ha ha, yeah, ive just realised, your completley right, lets all stand static at a DEATH METAL GIG and if we really fell like going off on one we can all clap our hands or (god forbid) tap our foot.
yes, opeth are intellectual music but the operative word being MUSIC
i know whoever reads will be wondering why i didnt reply on the original thread but this utter stupidity deserved a thread all on its own:headbang:

if the operative word is MUSIC, what's wrong with standing and listening to the MUSIC?

or why start moshing and NOT pay attention to the music? i dont care if you want to mosh, but dont blaim others who just come to watch opeth and listen to them play.

edit: ah i just saw there was already a thread running about this... why open up another one?

Nothing, if that's what you want to do. The stupidity is in telling others that moshing is stupid, and that they shouldn't do it at an "intellectual" Opeth show.

Personally I find moshing stupid. Yet, I respect those who want to mosh - it's their right and what they consider fun. Also, even though I don't like moshing, if I'm stupid enough to stand right next to the mosh pit and get bothered by moshers, then it's "fuck me for being dumb enough to stand too close to the moshers".

This arguement is no different then a persons right to smoke cigarettes. Unless it's illegal or somebody is smoking in a "no smoking zone", then what right do I have to complain if someone is smoking and the second hand smoke is bothering me?

Back to moshing - if you don't like, you have a few choices.

1. Don't go to concerts for the risk of moshing bothering you.
2. Go to concerts but stay clear of the moshing area.
3. Go to the concert, jump into the mosh pit, and do a better job of kicking ass then anybody else in the pit.

 actually it is, moshing won't cause cancer.

Yeah, whats the difference? We've alrady got 20,000 pointless threads, go ahead make another one. Then again you can only say so much about a band, that the topics will get stupid and repetitive.

My friend, you are the pointless thread king.

Moshing is a spur of the moment thing. It's a way of letting out the adrenaline given to you BY THE MUSIC.

I was like::OMG: when I heard this "Opeth is no Headbanger music"-stuff... poor Mikael, might be depressing to stand in front of 600 people and noone is allowed to have fun because he is too "intellectual".

I think moshing can be fun, when you have the right people in the pit.
For example: The crowd at the Machine Head Concert was simply brilliant. (Yes, I like this band, so please don't kill me for that...;) ) Noone had the intention to hurt anyone. But when I see these idiots at a Hatebreed concert killing each other, I just can't believe that anyone really has "fun" or something...

I can understand when some people rage out to songs like "deliverance" and when they want to mosh they're free to do that...

I went to Ozzfest this summer, and I saw a guy get dragged from the pit with the sharp, broken tip of his tibia poking out through his bloody shin. It sort of looked like he had two knees. The guy was in so much pain, he was clearly on another planet. Of course, he may have been high to begin with. People in front of me actually started gagging and puking. It was sick. And I was thinking, what a shitty way for your day to go. You're moshing it up (probably having a good time) during Killswitch, and all of a sudden you have a serious injury that will cost you money, time, and effort to rehab, and might cause you to have a permanent limp. For what? To mosh?

I can see how moshing would be fun. I used to play (American) football. That was my outlet. Having a socially acceptable way of venting that physical violence is a great release. The difference is that, in a football game or practice, you know that stepping on the field means you're going to get hit. Now that I'm older, I would like to go to a show and not risk injury. I wish I could get close enough to see Mikael and Peter's fingers as they play, since I am a guitarist. Instead, the people who AREN'T WATCHING, who are busy FEELING the music, get to be up front. That makes me a bit bitter. I understand that the band gets off on it. I would, too. It looks cool as hell from the stage. It's awesome to see your music affect people like that.

But from a musician's point of view, as a person who loves the music and not the scene, moshing is a bummer. But I understand that I have to deal with it. I just wish I could be closer without being part of the pit.

Yeah that's always been the biggest issue for me. For the last 4 gigs I've been to, I've been right up the front every single time. Obviously when you're pressed against the railing, you can't partake in the mosh pit, and since you're virtually a meter away from the band, you just want to be there, maybe headbang a bit and just share the feeling of the show with the band themselves. That's made hard by hundreds of people pushing forward, suffocating you, and endless crowd surfers kicking you in the head.

I want to be up there next to the band, but I don't want to deal with the idiots. The idiots are to be dealt with afterwards, outside.
