In this thread we appreciate King Diamond.

Graveyard may suck comparatively, but it's FUN. It has that overproduced sheen that plagues his albums nowadays, but it's done in a way to keep everything rather sparse. It still has dynamics as a result, which the newer albums lack.

The production on The Puppetmaster was actually really good. Everything was very clear, and the mix was amazing

I still found it lacking dynamically. Should have clarified that's more a result of the mastering. The production was good.

edit: nuts, thought we were talking about the new one. I forgot how good puppet master sounded overall.

You HAVE to check out Abigail and Them.
The former is easily the best metal album ever released, to me anyway.
Everything about it, is simply magnificent. The vocals, the music, the guitars, bass, drums, occasional synths, the storytelling, the atmosphere. Everything worked together wonderfully.

Not to mention, the outro for The Black Horsemen is one of the best leads I have ever heard.

I completely agree. There is just an epic feel to Abigail that can't be matched.

Mercyful Fate is also one of my favorite bands. Melissa and DBTO are nothing short of masterpieces, as well as In The Shadows. But I don't dislike anything they have put out.
Who could possibly not love Satan's Fall?
Seeing Mercyful Fate live is one of the things I have to do before I die, or at least to see King Diamond do Satan's Fall.

I managed to catch Mercyful Fate on their Time and Dead Again tours. They played Satan's Fall (still my all-time favorite song) and it was incredible. Walking back to the car after the show, I told my brother "I can die happy now. I've seen Satan's Fall live."

Force Of Evil is also worth checking out.

I didn't care much for it. The music was certainly good, and very similar to Mercyful Fate, but the vocals and lyrics just seemed cheesy and cliche.

My KD rankings in order, rated from 1 to 10

Abigail - 11
Fatal Portrait - 9
Them - 9
Conspiracy - 8
Voodoo - 8
The Eye - 8
The Spider's Lulllabye - 7
The Puppet Master - 7
House of God - 6
The Graveyard - 3
Abigail II - The Revenge - 2 (not worthy of the name Abigail)

I haven't listed to Give Me Your Soul...Please enough yet to give it a fair rating, but probably a 6 at this point.

Keep in mind that a King Diamond rating of 1 is equal to about a 6 in normal ratings.

I dunno, Puppet Master struck me as a 9 on Megadev's list.

Abigail 2 was bad though, I do dig GMYSP from what I've heard.

I adore 9. It's my favorite MF album since In The Shadows, right next to Time.
The lyrics were terrible (especially on Sold My Soul, and 9, the former being my favorite song on the album, with some uber awesome vocal harmonies), but the album had King's best vocals since The Spider's Lullabye. Guitar work was amazing (Hank and Mike Wead had pretty good chemistry on this album, but of course, it's just not the same without Michael Denner), and the sound was probably the heaviest since DBTO.
A little groove influenced, which I normally hate, but they really did it well. It was also kind of simpler than most of what they have done before it (except for some of the material on the tape trading demos/bootlegs and the s/t EP). But definitely an album worth picking up, despite what a lot of people may say. It's a lot of fun to listen to, and for just banging your head like a madman

I wish you'd come a little closer....so I can reach your cross and end your prayer here!!!
