Lucky. I could only imagine what an experience seeing Satan's Fall live must be like. My eyes always light up whenever I watch any bootlegs of it (especially the Eindhoven 1983 show, a bootleg I watch at least once a week).I managed to catch Mercyful Fate on their Time and Dead Again tours. They played Satan's Fall (still my all-time favorite song) and it was incredible. Walking back to the car after the show, I told my brother "I can die happy now. I've seen Satan's Fall live."
I didn't care much for it. The music was certainly good, and very similar to Mercyful Fate, but the vocals and lyrics just seemed cheesy and cliche. But hearing Michael Denner and Hank Shermann playing together, is more than enough for me.
I've wanted to check out all of Michael's side projects, but I haven't had the chance to. Apparently, there are so many demos, from so many bands he worked with, that span classic rock, to speed metal. I would love to hear every one of them.
My KD rankings in order, rated from 1 to 10
Abigail - 11
Fatal Portrait - 9
Them - 9
Conspiracy - 8
Voodoo - 8
The Eye - 8
The Spider's Lulllabye - 7
The Puppet Master - 7
House of God - 6
The Graveyard - 3
Abigail II - The Revenge - 2 (not worthy of the name Abigail)
I haven't listed to Give Me Your Soul...Please enough yet to give it a fair rating, but probably a 6 at this point.
Keep in mind that a King Diamond rating of 1 is equal to about a 6 in normal ratings.
Apparently, on their first live show in the US (which, if I'm not mistaken, Fates Warning opened for that show), they had a naked woman on a cross. But I haven't seen any pictures of that show, so I don't know if it's true or not.
Do you have a copy of the bootleg where Mercyful Fate opened for King Diamond (I believe it was for the Into The Unknown/The Graveyward European tour)?
The vocals in Force Of Evil really improved on Black Empire. But I do agree that the lyrics were pretty bad.
I pretty much agree with your list, although I'd place Spider's Lullabye a little higher (like a 9), with The Puppetmaster and Them being 10s.
