MOLLY HATCHET - Fall of the Peacemakers
JUDAS PRIEST - Beyond the Realms of Death
METALLICA - Fade to Black
MANOWAR - Defender
MEGADETH - Holy Wars...The Punishment Due
SLAYER - Seasons in the Abyss
THE EAGLES - Hotel California
SAXON - Dallas 1 PM
LYNYRD SKYNYRD - Freebird
METAL CHURCH - Gods of Wrath
LED ZEPPELIN - Stairway to Heaven
IRON MAIDEN - The Clansman
IMMORTAL - Beyond the North Waves
DIMMU BORGIR - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse
QUEEN - The Show Must Go On

add Amazedisgrace by Three (3) to my list since that song is just so awesome live every time

Agreed! This song just never gets old! Ahhhh and to see it performed live really does give you the chills...

No way, Pabla you are approving an Iron Maiden song?, unthinkable :Smug::p

You think perhaps I am getting a bit too predictable? :err:

Nahhhhhhhhhhhh :heh:

Well, you know where my heart is.... I would also nominate DT Octavarium, but I love Maiden best :saint:

Wow, can't believe I forgot DT's "A Change of Seasons" and Epica's "Consign to Oblivion (A New Age Dawns)".

As for Opeth..... "Black Rose Immortal"?

For epic Therion, I'd go with "To Mega Therion," with "Preludium" prepended to the beginning, as is customary. :kickass:

How about more modern Maiden?

I know that Brave New World has quite a few "epic" tunes

Ghost of Navigator
Dream of Mirrors

Dance of Death has

Paschendale and Dance of the Dead

They certainly know how to churn out epic tunes.

The Seven Angels from Avantasia though...that truly is epic.
I think Mission Profile from Threshold is epic too.

And why not A Nightmare to Remember from the new DT CD?

WOW! We are music soulmates!

I love a Nightmare to remember and anything Maiden... :)

So shocked that this hasn't been said.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Nearly 35 years old this song is still remains to be one of the most of Epic songs of all time. This song alone has a 10+ page entry on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Rhapsody.

Some things about the song that just make it that more special.

The song has no Chorus
24-track technology available at the time, the "opera" section took about three weeks to finish.
The choir effect was created by having May, Mercury, and Taylor sing their vocal parts continually for ten to twelve hours a day, resulting in 180 separate overdubs
Various executives suggested to them that, at 5 minutes and 55 seconds, it was too long and would never be a hit.
The single was accompanied by a promotional video; considered groundbreaking, it helped establish the visual language of the modern music video.

yes, i agree beside Edge Of Sanity being an album this has to be the most epic track ever recorded.

Dream Theater - Six Degrees of inner Turbulence. Now that's epic. Runner ups would be any of the big three by Helloween -- "Halloween", "Keeper of the Seven Keys" and "King for 1000 years".

To me the most "epic" sounding songs are...

1.) Blind Guardian - "And Then There Was Silence"
2.) Royal Hunt - "Intervention"
3.) Nightwish - "The Poet and the Pendulum"

It doesn't get much more over the top than these three contenders :)

Man, I'm going to be digesting all these lists for a while. I'm thinking...
Symx (The first and last 3 minutes of the Odyssey, all of Egypt, Divine Wings).
DT (Change of Seasons, 6 degrees).
Frost (Milliontown), if you haven't heard this, seriously check it out.
Angra (Carolina IV, gives me goosebumps when the intro theme comes back at the end).
Iron Maiden (Infinite Dreams).
Queensryche (Is there Anybody Listening, Suite Sister Mary)
Dixie Dregs (The Odyssey)

Even though length, doesn't automatically make for epic, some of these bands stuff their best epic bits into those songs.

I don't know if these are the most epic songs, but they are the most epic songs that I like.
Madder Mortem - Traitor's Mark (this band is phenomenal, if you don't know them check them out)
Virgin Black - ...and I am Suffering
After Forever - Dreamflight
