It once happened that after I bought a D'Addario set of guitar strings, it came with 5 strings. I considered I was crazy or the string got lost on another universe like happens to guitar picks.

Yesterday, I bought a set of D'Addario coated nickel-plated steel strings, opened it today and it came with 4 strings. What the hell? I just recently started to play guitar again so I don't know but, is this common to happen?

No, they're not bass strings.

I'd guess someone at the shop would have lifted them off your pack.
The way I buy them it's easy to take a single string out, dunno how they come in your area tho.

Never had a string missing so far, and I'm a D'Addario user for quite a few years now.

That would sound like the issue had it not be for the fact that D'addario sets are in a single sealed bag. You would know if someone at the shop pulled some if the bag was ripped open.

Seems like someone was sleeping at the factory.

Yeah, they come in a sealed bag

Can't say that I've ever been shorted a string in my Dean Markley Blue Steel strings - they come in a sealed box so it would be pretty obvious if someone yanked one out. I have however been shorted picks like you mention - I've had several bags of ten be bags of 8.

I was going to respond that they the D'Addarios come in a single packet but I see you responded already. I'd contact D'Addario about it - who knows, you'll probably get a few set of strings gratis for your trouble.

wow, go figure, I was totally thinking about my brief romance with Ernie Ball strings
those don't have the plastic package sealed I think, and every string in a seperate paper.
My fault, goes to show how active my brain is while changing strings if I don't even realize that after 10yrs+ using the same things hahaha

Yeah I'd email Daddario, they'll make it right. I had this with a set of Rotosounds once, though that seemed to be someone at the shop taking one out of the pack as apparently packs of Roto's are weighed during quality control to make sure they have the right amount of strings in them. Rotosound gave me about a half dozen high e's as compensation though.
