Innovation/imitation

:) This is why Dungeon are the best band in Australia!

Vanishing Point, Crimson Fire, Kymera, etc.. are all good musically, but lack that fun spirit.... and Pegazus have the fun spirit but play extremely bland, boring music haha.

Dungeon RULE! :)

Spawny: Of course you can join!! As long as you don't mind prancing around in leather and going way over the top with the 80s stuff :D Hehehe.

And don't cut your hair! Hehe... is it teasable? HAHA!

I dont mind running around like an idiot, wearing leather, being 80s rock (can someone say bon jovi, poison, warrant and motley crue at the height of their powers??) So I want in dammit! :D
And yes, my hair is very teasable (probably)

Innovative in my opinion means original.

Bands I would consider innovative in the sense that they have their own distinctive sound include:

Iron Maiden (think back to 1980-85...it was very innovative then!)
Deftones
Tool
Korn
Fear Factory
Faith No More
Paradise Lost
Sex Pistols
The Cult

I could go on but I won't. All of these bands can't be mistaken for anyone else when you hear one of their tracks. You know who it is without hearing the band's name mentioned.
Innovation does not necessarily mean being popular in the present day or playing a modern style of music. Innovation should be measured from the time a band started playing. Was it original then? In the case of all of the above bands the answer is definitely yes.

That makes that half man half ape thing that was banging a rock with a big bone (from the movie 2001 a space odyssey) the most innovative of all!

But seriously, Black Sabbath are very innovative then, it was all sunshine and lollipops when they released their first album!

I couldn't agree more with all this, and I agree with what other peole are saying as well. I've also had a few interesting downloads develop out of this. It's just that I asked who's innovative at the moment. :D

Although the discussions seems to have been run, so it's probably time to extend the discussion a bit.

Dillinger Escape Plan and Meshuggah, both can give you a headache if your not in the disjointed, stop start kinda mood.
Devin Townsend's solo work to is rather grand.
