Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier

Snuck out from work at lunch to get it, fuck I love a new maiden album, simply bliss.

Have only got to the 3rd track driving back to work, but am loving it already, will sit back with a few coldies tonight and listen twice or thrice more, huzzah.

oops here come the boss...me, out.

Don't worry, this isn't their last album.
Maybe. The sentiment of the title track and Coming Home might suggest otherwise. I am going to assume it is, so if they do another I can be surprised.

Speaking of the title track, I like it much more now than when I first heard it. Love it already. And Bruce was right about the El Dorado mp3, the album version sounds way better. Methinks the mp3 wasn't mastered.

I've ripped it already, but for some reason it's not syncing with my iPhone. :( How am I going to listen to it on the way home?

Proper headphones and actual CD tonight, methinks.

I'm loving this album.
It reminds me a little of the Brave New World album in parts. Definitely right about the El Dorado song. The CD version is much better.

My favourite tracks are probably The Alchemist, Isle of Avalon and When The Wild Wind blows.

Liking it much more than Dance of Death and AMOLAD.

Hopefully they play quite a few tracks live when they come.

At JB they have heaps of Posters, t-shirts and albums advertising Maiden everywhere. Never seen anything like it before. They even have t-shirts on display at Sanity. Since when do Sanity do anything Maiden related?

Iron Maiden's fifteenth studio album, The Final Frontier, is not set to be their last studio release, the band have confirmed.

Speculation has been rife since they announced the record's title earlier this year – especially given mainman Steve Harris' frequent comments in previous years that they'd make 15 albums then stop.

But with the title set for release on Monday morning Harris tells Metal Hammer: "It's true that I've always said I wanted to do 15 studio albums. Well, I haven't always said that – I started saying it after the fourth or fifth album, but I didn't expect to do more than three when we first started.

"There's probably a bit of mischief in the name, particularly on Bruce Dickinson's part. People are going to think it's either the last album or that we're Trekkies, or both. It's not like that really."

Singer Dickinson adds: "Is it mischief? Of course it is – although we genuinely haven't made up our minds about another album, we thought people would be bound to say, 'Oh, it's the last album.'

"So we'll just go, 'Not necessarily'. I don't know what we'll call the next one. Maybe Never Say Never?"

Meanwhile, drummer Nicko McBrain is even more forthright about the outfit's future: "I think everyone's being too cagey. It ain't gonna be the last record, not as far as I'm concerned. The general feeling is that if we want to make another record, we will."

Thanks for the report to RockRadio.

Looks like they will be around for a while! :D

Hello all, it's been a while!

Just bought the album today, listening now for the first time on some decent studio monitors ... I like it a lot so far! The production is better than the last couple of albums, though I still prefer Martin Birch to Kevin Shirley. The songs so far sound a bit different, it's always good to hear a band trying to stretch their sound. There are definitely a few 'Maidenisms' unsurprisingly, but after this long we can forgive them for some repetition surely lol.

Welcome back bassman!

I agree that the production is pretty great, though I do really like the way AMOLAD sounds as well.

That UltimateGuitar quote is interesting, as its the first time I have seen them address the issue since the album was announced. I still like to think that this might be their last, and that they are dabbling with the idea that it is their last just so people can't say they didn't see it coming, and if they want to record more in the future then they can. Cool.

VERY early days so is hard to tell, but I am not sure I rate it as highly as the last 2 at this stage.

I think Mother of Mercy is my early fav, with The Talisman and When The Wild Wind Blows taking interest as well. The Talisman sounds so Gers/Harris. Much like Dance of Death and The Legacy. I like.

On the song The Man who would be king
the line "Destiny No need to Hide away" that whole vocal melody just makes me sing "I'm on my way, out on my own again" from one of their other songs. The name escapes me at the moment....

Is 'Arry the one thats responsible for the repeating of the name of the song in the chorus? Because if so, he should think of something new. It gets annoying.

first thing I did when I went into work was ask if they had it in and about an hour later, I had it in hand
got the tin case special edition, for all the little extras in it

they played it a couple of times in the store as well and, from the limited amount that I could physically hear, it seems to set up with the reviews I've read so far
weak first half but 2nd half smashes it! :headbang:

also something I noted is that they are sounds more progressive in terms of what they are plays, cords and scales and such
and, like the past couple of albums, it's more about the music and the playing then just Bruce's vocals (this was something it took until The X Factor to figure out)
some of the lyrics are naturally a bit weak but that is more than made up for by all the interesting little tricks they are now pulling in production and playing -the fills and effects
exceptionally well done all up and can easily over look it's weaknesses because of it's strengths :headbang:

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!

When the Wild Winds Blows is fucking epic!
lacking the repeative chorus that the earlier sings have but it's deep, emotive and tells a deep story
that seems to be the pattern of the songs from The Talisman onward does

what a way to end an album! :headbang:

I hate those choruses! Some of them sound so forced! But I like their story telling. Im a fan of El Dorado now that its not the MP3 version.

And Satellite 16 DOES sound like a Muse intro, but heavy metal style!

Only listened once so far. Some songs are superb, others (specifically The Alchemist and Starblind) less so. No net here so I've bought another copy on iTunes for my iPhone because I'm too lazy to sync it, but it won't download the final track - do you need wifi for tracks that are more than 10 minutes long?
