Personally the way I interperate it is there's a guy, and he decided to poison his mom for some reason, and the devil somehow warned her of it, and then she died, but her ghost wouldn't leave, and then the guy went physco and the devil started to want his sould cuz well he killed his mom, so he tries to escape but in the end he sucks up to the devil basically and sells his soul.
Could be wrong but thats the way i see it, in a summerized version
(and for just a twist, i decided to actually include Isolation Years in the story)
Because if you do, and you put the story behind it, the song actually sounds like the mother wrote a letter the moment before she died saying in it that basically she knows that her son is killing her and that she'll basically die alone because she thinks her son's soul is dead and the letter is being found by some random person years later.
But thats' probably not what the song means, its probably talking about some random lover and her dead husband.
But i think Opeth's lyrics are pretty open and vague, and mikeal probably would want everyone to take their own ideas and feelings from them and look at them at whatever way makes them seem the coolest to them personally.
