Is The Bastard Hammers' best album?

I can't compare The Bastard and The August Engine because they are so different and both so great.

However, The August Engine and The Bastard are each > The Locust Years, Fields, and Church of Broken Glass.

The Bastard is certainly my favourite, love that album to death.

It's out of print currently. "Temporarily sold out" on the main HoM site, which may indicate that a possible re-issue is in the works.

The Bastard is probably my favorite (for several reasons) but in reality, The August Engine is their magnum opus just for the sheer genius of it all. I go back and forth between them tbh. Either way, both are mandatory 10/10 buy or die, after which Fields is better than Locust Years which in turn is better than Church.

It's kind of like asking if Blood, Fire, Death is Bathory's best. It would be more to the point to ask, which is HoM's least over-hyped piece of tripe?

I'm fairly certain that if it weren't for JK's ability to glamour (<- True Blood terminology) this forum, Hammers would be seen as the overly pretentious load of crap they actually are.

He just kept harping on and on about them and I eventually had to concede.

The Bastard was the one he bitched most about, hence my "favourite."

:loco:

just heard trot out the dead for the first time, not only awesome but already better than anything on the bastard. should i go ahead and get the locust years or is it not representative of the rest?
