Is there a band that gives you a bad vibe ? I listen to a lot of different styles of metal, though 75% prog and can handle most anything..... except Tool. I bought "Undertow" ten years ago or so when it came out because I liked Sober, but in those ten years, I haven't made it through the whole CD. I don't know what it is about that band, but they freak me out. I am just curious if that has happened to other people ?

No, although one time I watched some of Dimmu Borgir's World Misanthropia (can't remember the title) DVD thing and it was a bit freaky for some reason. I'm not a fan, one of my friends had it so I decided to watch it out of curiosity. It was just uncomfortably strange, dunno exactly why.

I have never once listened to the whole Projector album by Dark Tranquillity. Not that I dont like it... I do like some songs, its just wierd to me, it seems to drag in.

There was one video by Android Lust I saw once that made me feel ill. A combination of dirty imagery, horrible video quality, and crappy song made me want to puke. I never watched it again, and I am much happier from doing so.

Otherwise, nope. Dark and disturbing atmosphere = pleasure to me.

yeah. i agree with tool. very overrated
although i dont think opeth is BAD, i also think they are far too popular among ppl. they arent as special as ppl crack them up to be.

others ... ACDC .. overrated. i dont get how ppl cant hear that all the songs are the same. Plus being in Australia, everything that comes out of the country is "the best in its field" and somehow the nation becomes obsessed!!

there are others ... too many to list. hehe

but as far as bands go U2/Oasis are the sorriest excuses for a bands ever!!!!!

they suck soo much!!!!!!!! and yet they are so damned popular. WTF!!!

hehe, sorry i know they arent metal, but i just had to tell someone :)

Hmm, back to the thread subject...

Today is the Day... I bought Sadness Will Prevail a while ago, and I must say, I have to be consciencely insane to keep listening to that abulm and love every minute of it. There's just something about that band that makes me go :zombie:.

Ummmm why did you post this? Did you even read the topic?

The whole Bethlehem/Dolorian/Shining "suicide metal" band spectrum used to give me the willies, i enjoy the willies, however, so these are 3 of my favourite bands.

Awesome topic!
I would have thought Abruptum would give me the willies, but I love 'em. The friends i've played it to get seriously freaked-out however, and I suppose it IS disturbing 'music', but it just strikes me as sublime.

When I first started listening to metal, I remember Cradle of Filth really creeped me out, but that was just the song 'The Black Goddess Rises'; they don't scare me anymore.

Ummm, I really can't think of any bands that have these strange scaring effects on me nowadays. There is of course music I have trouble listening through and concentrating on, but not because its disturbing. Hmmm, lemme think on this a while!

Glad to see some cool replies. I actually have listened to some "Cradle of Filth" and a few other of the more extreme stuff and though it's not my thing, Tool has been the only band that I have had that experience with to that degree. Even some prog bands write some strange stuff that might give me a shiver thinking about it, but the Tool had nothing to do with the lyrics, just their sound and style. I can understand their popularity, as they are pretty unique but I won't be buying their next release. They have a weird vibe.

Aphex Twins "Selected Ambient Works Volume 2". It consists of 24 unnamed tracks that consist mostly of endless repetitions of short riffs. I swear to you, after a while, when you`ve heard the same riff something like 200 times, you begin to freak out, see stuff, hear voices that are not there. Gawd, that album is creepy.

disembowelment - transcendance into the peripherial, probably the one that most gave me the willies... not scary just wierd. makes me imagine wierd crap.

They aren't metal but this band named Elysian Fields has a song called fright night. The female has great vocals on this that actually gives me the shivers at times.

I got scared when I first hear of Anal Cunt... But it's more laughable than scary. I still can't stomach things that are heavier than Napalm Death, though, it's just somewhat disturbing.
Also I Electric Wizard seemed very unpleasant at first, but I love 'em now.

Yeah, Aphex Twin is some weird shit. I have Drukqs, but it's the kind of thing when you're only in the mood to listen to it once a year.

Of what I remember, Cradle of Filth was pretty horrible, but I haven't heard it in two years.

How can I forget this one...MUDVAYNE. Practically any mainstream wannabe nu-metal "musicians" grate on my nerves.
