Yes, Joe Satriani's site has news that Yngwie will be on the G3 tour. Yngwie, Vai, and Satch... how cool is that gonna be?

Sure, Romeo would've been cooler, but I'll be just fine with one of his biggest influences.

Anyone else excited? How about disgusted? It wasn't received too well on the John Petrucci forum.

awsome. Finally some real shred on the G3 tour. I'll probably just go for Yngwie (maybe stay for Vai, he always puts on a good show). I think satch sucks, so...I wont be very interested to sit through his set thats for sure.

It should be Vai - Malmsteen - Petrucci. JP is a great player, alot better than Satch. More virtuostic, more of a "shredder". Vai rules! No one can play like him even if they try to immitate him. Not so much of a 'shredder' as such (but can still play some seriously fast shit). But the way he plays is unbelievable. Malmsteen is the 'father' of shred, needs no introduction. I hope he plays Blitzkrige (sp?) and Far beyond the Sun. They're his best songs IMO.
Will they come to Australia? I hope so. I think the popularity between Satch, Vai and Yngwie is enough to fill a decent sise venue.

They gotta do a DVD of it. !!

I'm definitely surprised that some of you guys don't like Satch, but to go as far as saying that he sucks...come on! He is not one of my favs by any means, but when I saw G3 2 years ago, he lit the Beacon Theater up!! If Vai hadn't done Shyboy and For the Love of God, Satch would have stole the show IMO.

I'm not a big JP fan though. I think he's great, but like the rest of DT, he doesn't do much for me as far as songwriting goes.

IMO Yngwie hasn't released a really good album since Odyssey. But I would still go see him with the hope of him doing mainly, if not all, instrumental stuff. The last time I saw him (w/DIO) I thought he was awful.

Alchemy was an exelent album. And Yngwies best, even better to rising Force. WTEAW was shit, for many reasons. Attack was pretty bad aswell, but Alchemy slayed with tracks like Blitzkrieg, Leonardo, Voodoo Nights and Asylum.

I would go just to see Yngwie!
Got the chance to see him once and he was REALLY good, he put on a good show, even though his stupid singer had to start some crap right b-4 the show and NOT perform. So Poor Yngwie did it all, the whole show w/out a singer, and pulled it off wonderfully.:D:loco:

it's a pretty sad day when I read that some of you think Joe Satriani sucks. You don't have to like him, but to say he sucks is such a shame. For one, he taught Steve Vai. To those that say he sucks, have you ever watched him live?? I have, and he is an amazing guitarist. And, he can shred with the best. He knows when the shredding is necessary. My favorite guitarists are John Petrucci, Jeff Loomis, Al DiMeola, Joe Satriani, Romeo, George Lynch, and Alex Skolnick. These are not in any particular order. I respect everyones opinions, but saying one sucks is not cool.

nckissfan - I fully agree with you!

Roland Grapow played some serions shred back in 94 (listen to Helloween - Grapowski's Malmsuite 101, it's an interpretation of Paganini's 16th caprice, I believe) and he doesn't shred much now in Masterplan.

You know why?

Coz' it isn't nessecary!

Well this is the first time I'll say "FUCK YOU SHREDHEADS!!!!!!!!!!!"

I hope it'll be my last one as well.

I will check out Alchemy again, but I will always like the first 4 albums better than anything he did from Eclipse forward. I don't think it's even close.

Yeah really... I don't think Satch is amazing live, but to say he sucks is shit. His ear training and knowledge of modes blow most guitarists out of the water.

This is gonna be so awesome because HOPEFULLY it'll be instrumental. Yngwie's instrumental stuff kills... the only song of his with a singer that I can really stand is "Deja Vu." Other than that... blah.

I agree with not liking satch style. I think his music is boring. I only liked 2 songs of his at the most. If you want someone for modes I prefer listening to vinnie moore. I am happy that yngwie is coming. I loved all of his albums. Shredding is awesome but you have to be melodic with it as well.

I know most modes. In fact I wrote a book on modes for myself. I have done indebt music theory study. Not just the modes of the major scale, but of scales like hirojoshi, Melodic Major/minor, Hungarian major and others.
