It's that time... your best albums of 2006

i'll make a list of a few i enjoyed this year, they are not in any order:

David Gilmour-On An Island
Kataklysm-In The Arms Of Devastation
Decapitated-Oraganice Halucinosis
Devin Townsend Band-Synchestra
Witchery-Don't Fear The Reaper
Place of Skulls-The Black Is Never Far
Misery Inc.-Random End
Ministry-Rio Grande Blood
Norther-Till Death Unites Us
Enforsaken-Sinners Intuition
Moonspell-Memorial
Zykon-Disinigrate
Katatonia-The Great Cold Distance
Enslaved-Ruun
Celtic Frost-Monotheist
Pearl Jam-Pearl Jam
Tool-10,000 Days
Rebel Meets Rebel
Dissection-Reinkaos
SYL-The New Black
Shadowsphere-Hellbound Heart
Lair of the Minotaur-The Ultimate Destroyer
Priestess-Hello Master
Skinless-Trample The Weak Hurdle The Dead
Into Eternity-Scattering Of Ashes
Lamb of God-Sacrament
Amon Amarth-With Oden on Our Side
Mirror of Deception-Shards
Iron Maiden-A Matter of Life and Death
Isis-In The Absence ofTruth

and i was a bit dissapointed by:

My Dying Bride
Slayer
Trivium
Entombed
Blind Guardian
Amorphis

I agree with you. Monotheist was too drone-like and Reinkaos was a bit too hokey with the "Chaos end this world" theme in just about every song.

Monotheist = Second biggest waste of my time of the year... next to Disillusion's Gloria.

I can't believe I forgot A Twist in the Myth... That album is up there for this year.

I'm WAY out of the loop this year, but some of 2006's albums that I've been listening to:

Anata - The Conductor's Departure
Destroy Destroy Destroy - Devour the Power
To-Mera - Transcendental
DragonForce - Inhuman Rampage

don't have much to choose from out here, so for now I guess....

Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress
Axamenta - Ever-I-Arch-i-tech-tur-e or however you spell it :err:
Mercenary - The Hours That Remain

and I've forgotten all the other ones I should have mentioned :/

I just reviewed the new Seventh Wonder album at LivingForMetal. Easily one of my favorite prog albums out there. It's very hard to find an album that is so complex/technical but so catchy. I think of them as Vox Tempus meets Asia.

Hammers of Misfortune - The Locust Years: contains perhaps the two greatest songs of the year: Trot out the Dead and the title track, but the rest of the album doesn't reach these peaks

War Anthem SO does.
But yeah, John seemed to have a lack of direction for the album.

I only bothered with the important bands this year (maiden, guardian, HOM) which always release quality. (you can disagree and be wrong, I do not mind and will ignore you)
I am checking out just about everyone's reccs except fags that mention papa roach (wtf?) and Matt.
