Taunusheim sound very German, nice band but as good as...

Odroerir - Götterlieder

Listen to Weltenanfang

Mid-paced and actually not really metal at all. Some fat riffing now and again for the sake of it, but the bulk of the album consists of beautiful "fireplace" folk tunes based on the Icelandic poem "Edda". The album carries a deep and genuine feeling of sadness and the mixed choirs (male+female) are of unusual quality for the genre.

got it. just need to listen to it.

Why is Turisas just for me?

Because other than Krigloch, you're probably the only one that will appreciate it. Take Ensiferum's debut and add more cheese and bombast and you get one helluva a fun epic album.

viking metal?!?!?

a funny term
totally

Anyway a thread with the words "folk" and "metal" in the same sentence, and noone mentioned Skyclad yet. That shows how great douchebags you are all.
And only one mentioned Doomsword (Doomcifer of course). Most of the bands you all mentioned are barbies, compared to Doomsword, when it comes to heathen-ism

i didn't realize albums such as these qualified for this stupidly named sub-sub-sub-genre. all i can say is :kickass: to those. not 10/10 though, come on... :tickled:

Now I'm confused....I thought "Viking/Pagan/Heathen/Folk/Celtic" was a SELECTION of genres, not 1 fucking sub sub sub sub sub genre.

I mean, if someone says "Celtic", the ONLY band I think of even worthy of mention is Slough Feg. OK so there's Cruachan but they're pretty blah.

all i can say is :kickass: to those. not 10/10 though, come on... :tickled:

Well, yeah, I'm not one to give out 10/10 scores very easily so let's revise:

Hammers: 10/10 (easy)
Empyrium: 10/10 (fucking hell, in the top 3 of ALL time)
Skyclad: 7.5/10
Primordial: 9.5/10
Solstice: 7.5/10
Slough Feg: 8/10
White Skull: 11/10

I mean, how the fuck is Primordial not considered Heathen???

Fucking hell, I knew this thread would spiral into a genre nazi debate. :loco:

Isn't that the band that renamed into Hades Almighty? In any case, I found Hades Almighty's first album quite bare of stand-out songs. Maybe the regressive quality theorem applies to them too.
