Several area residents reported seeing a huge flash of light dropping out of the Montana sky around 5:30 Thursday evening.

The fireball was likely a meteor. According to news reports, a meteor streaked across Alberta and Saskatchewan at about that time, possible crashing down in central Alberta.
Craig Madsen, of Sun River, was returning from a hunting trip Thursday evening when he and a fellow hunter saw an enormous light come out of the sky and drop almost straight to the ground, followed by a huge flash of bright light.
The National Weather Service Office in Great Falls has received several reports of sightings.
