I've figured it out

well regardlesss of what teh story is about it doesnt matter because it is HEAVY FUCING metal!!! MIXED WITH BEUATIFUL ACOUSTIC PASSAGES!. YES!

I can't help but be reminded of Robert Johnson's (brilliant) "Hellhound on My Trail", when hearing "Baying of the Hounds". In Johnson's day, it was common in Southern churches to use imagery of the hounds of hell coming to seize sinners.

Yes, I agree with you there, it's the first thing I thought of as well (and Comus' lyric "...baying of the hounds..." of course).
The lyric on that song ('Hellhound on My Tail')is quite haunting... I find that Robert Johnson's voice has that kind of undertone to it.

Ah ha, read the rest of the the thread, Isolation Years isn't part of the concept, this has been discussed. It's a song that was written for another album (much like a lot of the stuff from Damnation) but never made it on for one reason or another. Hence, it is the reason why many argue that there isn't a concept to Ghost Reveries, however with this information in mind it is essentially the anamoly which proves the rule.

if GR is a concept album, which it so obviously isn't, then how is it that reverie/harlequin forest sounds like it would fit in better with the story of still life??? c'mon people, concept albums have singular themes or uniting themes even, not a couple songs that fit together then some odds and ends.

Which is one side of the arguement, the opposite side of the argument is that a story can be made from the songs which do fit together (which is clutching at straws a little).

Personally I'm on the fence, it matters very little me wheather it's a concept album or not.

And how elegant is the word "trail"? You think of a path trodden into the ground. And figuratively that path is the protagonist's past and destiny in one.
