I've not yet heard 'Mabool'. How does it sound compared to Opeth?

I'm always seeking new bands, and, until recently, this band slipped under my radar.
With that said, I've read nothing but glowing reviews and am thinking of buying this records, without having heard any of it.

I've read where people compare them to Opeth. Is that accurate? I know they utilize both clean & death vocals, but musically, is it a fair comparison?

Is it also true that there's a very heavy Dead Can Dance influence on the album?

It's not really fair to compare them to opeth, but I guess you could in terms of the level of musicianship (although I think Mabool is way better than the last couple of the heavy opeth discs) it's progressive but it's still really metal. The Dead Can Dance influence might be off the mark as DCD and orphaned land musically draw their influences from eastern culture.

But I would say if you like Opeth and Dead can Dance this will probably be fit you well, Mabool is an excellent release, I couldn't imagine how you could dislike it. listen to some song samples if need be.

I suggest you to get the album and listen to it from the begining to the end......
it will take you to a jouney.....and I believe with all my heart that you will love it.....

about Opeth and Dead can dance......
i can't see any resemblance......OL's music is very unique.....
but of course influences are possible.....cause the band like these 2 bands......

cheers!

Ah, it's too difficult for me to even compare Orphaned Land with Opeth. They are BOTH fantastic bands. For me, it depends on the mood. But yes, while Orphaned Land clearly have their owb, unique sound, I can see why some may refer to Opeth when describing OL. Both feature elegantly composed acoustic guitar passages, both bands have great clean vocal melodies and BOTH have stunning solos. Heck, even Orphaned Land has their share of fairly lengthy tracks, but not OVERLY long, hehe.

Anyway, in the end, Orphaned Land has quickly become one of my favourite bands (right alongside Opeth, which were #1 for so long now.) Their music doesn't sound TOO much like Opeth, but it is similar in some ways and both bands' music impacts me the same way emotionally. And when music does that for me, it's truly something.

So basically what I'm saying here is, anyone who has been or recently has become a fan of Opeth most-likely SHOULD embrace the beauty of Orphaned Land's killer sound.

O yes, I can clearly see where the Opeth link is coming from when we are talking the music of Orphaned Land - especially the Mabool album. I used Opeth as one of the first references on hearing the Mabool.

First up- the length of some of the tracks and the way the keep even the longer tracks an interesting listening experience by putting in so much surprises and turns you hear something new and a new layer to the music every time you listen to it, secondly the breaks in the songs where the music can go to all ends of the musical spectrum in just one song and lastly the whole feel to the music- it is not "just"metal but takes you far away from the boundaries of music that is considdered being metal.

Mabool's first listen gave me the same kind of feeling of surprise and awe as my first spin of "Morningrise "gave me. It is like something you never heard before.

Then on the Dead can dance link: certainly you can see where that is coming from as well. DCD use a lot of oriental influences in their music and is a band which cannot be categorized in any way, just like Orphaned Land.

But honestly said: we can all talk about it for hours, but it just comes down to one thing in the end: just a few times in your life you hear an album that does not only speak to your ears and headbang muscles, but that goes straight to your heart and makes you want to smile, cry and love life and the world entire from sheer beauty.
It is the kind of masterpiece that makes you wonder how it was ever possible that humans created it- it is fucking ( pardon the expression, for lack of more powerful words to describe) pure poetry put to music. It is the kind of art where the total is so much more than the sum of the parts,it is a work of genius.

And trust me that I mean every single word that I put in here-if you listen to it, you will be sorry you have not done so before, like with every work of art you see/ hear for the first time and know that you will love it from that day forth.

Enjoy falling in love with Mabool!!!!
