This has probably been talked about before but is there anybody else who doesn't like Labrie's live voice besides me? I'm just hearing out of tune madness. I like it when he's in his middle range but for his upper octave I don't like him a lot of the time.

Oh boy....here we go...

 I guess he is only a few years too late...

Seriously, Apollo... Don't bother with this one. Not again. Not for the 20th time. I think the only topic that beats this discussion is the Illegal Downloading one.

Coming as a big time Dream Theater fan, I will admit at times his upper register can be cringe-worthy. However, I don't think it's always like that. More than anything else, I think he's just inconsistent live. I've seen him when he's great and I've seen him when he's lackluster.

You talk about me, but you couldn't resist yourself grabbing that glob of worms out of the can and throwing them in your mouth huh?!?

Put me down as a fan. He has his off moments, but he's worked really hard over the years to improve and is one of the few vocalists out there who gets better with age. I love his solo material too, and would love to see him at PPUSA.

If James LaBrie wasn't a good singer, he wouldn't be in Dream Theater.

Must... resist...

Here are some interesting items from JL's wikipedia page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_LaBrie ):

Criticism
During his career with Dream Theater, LaBrie's singing voice attracted criticism. In response to detractors of his vocal abilities, LaBrie has said, "These people are pathetic and need to move on. I say get a life and maybe work on making your life a better one instead of thinking the answer lies in cutting someone else up to raise your miserable spirit."

Food Poisoning incident
On December 29, 1994, while vacationing in Cuba, LaBrie was stricken with a severe case of food poisoning from contaminated shrimp and while vomiting, he ruptured his vocal cords. He saw three throat specialists who all said there was nothing they could do except have him rest his voice as much as possible. However, on January 12, 1995, and against doctor's orders, he was on the "Awake" tour in Japan with his voice far from normal. LaBrie has said he did not feel vocally "normal" until at least 2002. LaBrie has said that this was a very hard time for him as a singer, and depression as a result caused him to consider departing from the band, although his bandmates supported him and told him to stay. After the "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" tour he discovered that his voice had fully returned. He has said that his voice was fully healed by time and training.

I think it's more of the fault on the band that forgot how to write parts that suit his vocals because they've become more interested in being a parody of themselves seeing who can jack their instruments off harder in 12 minutes rather than actually writing cohesive tunes.
