Well it's a long shot, but does anyone or could anyone put these two up against each other ?

I've got a JCM800 and thinking of getting hold of a 6505+

In Australia is near impossible for the next month or so, due to the distributor not getting shipments.....

Being that I own a 6505+ and love it, and that I don't like Marshalls (dumb predjudice on my part), uh, well I think you can guess what I would say. But don't listen to me...

LOL classic, its a big leap from my JCM800, shes been "faithful" but the results I hear on board with the 6505+ are just too good to ignore...I guess I could live the dream and have two heads....

Or 8, like me. :D

I have a JCM800 2203 and a 5150...and soon a JSX as well...the 5150 owns the 800...I actually hate Marshalls. So go figure I have three of them, lol.

I wouldn't throw a JCM800 out of MY bed! Keep her around. Man, I look back on some of the gear I've swapped over the years. I wish I could have kept my first guitar, a pretty vintage SG. But I HAD to trade it for a new Charvel with a Floyd! I'm keeping everything now! Especially the heads!

Sounds like chicken vs beef to me.
Just two different beasts you may like or not cause it's up to your taste.

Unless you're planning to play the amp on clean channel perhaps :D

And even still, the clean on the 5150 isn't all that horrible. I think the whole "5150 is not a clean amp" thing gets blown way out of proportion. No, it's not a Fender clean, but then again, it's not a freakin' Fender amp, is it?

I wouldn't discount the JCM800 right away, I owned a 2203. Slam it with a good pedal and you're immediately in hot-rod Marshall territory. Or better yet, hunt down one of those old Soldano Hot Mods on eBay and you're instant Fear Factory Demanufacture tone.

Don't get me wrong, I like 5150s as much as the next guy, (I've owned two, and one was modded) but the 5150s can't compete with the shear depth and power of the big 2203 poweramp. Where the 5150s do excel compared to the JCM800 is that they are waaaay better at the modern high gain saturated tone.

I played the JSX and the XXX - thought the XXX was a great almost "Mesa" sounding amp - loved the female outlines on the head !

Will definately keep the 800 it has an additional preamp and I've replaced all the power tubes with GT6550R, it does sound good with Maxon820..

*sighs* but I can't sleep at night with the 6505 calling my name LOL

8 !!elephant-audio thats just damm too kinky !

You're running 6550s in the 800? And did you mean an additional preamp tube? Which JCM800 is it? This thing kinda sounds like Dino Cazares' old Demanufacture 800 that he was always raving about, lol!

Mother of god I bet that thing has power. 6550/KT88s are IMPOSSIBLE to breakup.

yep she has 4 GT6550R in power tubes and an additional pre, so 4 instead of 3, its an old original JCM800 from the 80's (sorta like its owner lol)

and Loud ? yep shes a nightmare....she ruptured my testicles, but thats why I dont want to part with her
