If you aren't worried about it being a spot on Marshall there are all sorts of cool clones/ marshall-ish amps out there. Full disclosure I have never owned a Marshall JMP or 800 but have heard plenty. I really like the Sovtek MIG varieties, most of the ones I have heard in person sound like more pissed off / uglier Marshalls, the MIG 100, MIG-50h, MIG100h, and MIG-60 all do the Marshall thing, build quality varied but most people agree you can bring them up to tour worthy with a small investment. The Red Bear MK series heads are really cool too. The Peavey Windsor with a boost sounds awesome and Marshall like and sells for $200 or less. Laney made an amp called the AOR i believe, that is highly praised for being a pretty good Marshall knock off.
Also worthy of consideration are other less hyped Marshalls. The Marshall 6100 head conjures alot of the classic tones people like Marshalls for and can usually be had for $700-$1000, It was sort of the early 90s JVM, channel switcher with modes that were supposed to sound like the different popular models. My good friend owns one and it is a really great versatile amp, channel 2 with a boost rips. I also think for straight metal tones the Valvestate 8000 series amps are really hard to beat, they have that Marshall stringy attack thing going on despite being solid state and the contour knob makes it possible to get some different flavors. They also made the Artist series of amps in the late 80s / early 90s, they had a solid state preamp and tube poweramp and are generally well thought of and low wattage.
Buy any of these and a nice Weber power soak and you will come in on or under budget.
