I was shooting for the sturgis style production here, and wasn't even gonna post this one but thought i might since it's free of any standard joey mix techniques and i'd just like to remind all the preset-kiddies that you can get a certain sound without doing it "textbook", if you will.

but still sounds pretty up that alley, if ya ask me.

also, if ya ask me, all you kids begging for the perfect pod patch should stop wasting your time and just pay small amounts for the masters on this forum to re-amp for you. this one is yet another fine harvey re-amp added to my growing collection.

drums are NATURAL snare, rooms and overheads, with metal foundry kick and toms.

............and, a TEENY bit of maple toms for oomph and a Z4 blended in 12% on the snare. so I lied a little.

I really like the guitars but not big on the vocals at all. Especially the clean singing. It sounds way separated from the rest of the mix. They sound thin and karaoke and definitely have too much reverb. I would try some additional takes compressed along with the main vocal to fatten it up a bit. I'd lose the tail on the reverb for sure. The drums sound pretty good. I'd like a little more high end on the overheads. Mix sounds pretty good to me.

Most of the this is based on my personal preferences so feel free to disregard. :)

It sounds good, but those are not sturgis sounding drums by any means

Waddya use for bass?

erm... i actually think just SVX for this one. i wanted the bass to be cleanish. sometimes i like filthy bass but for this mix a clean creamy bass under the guitar seemed most appropriate. also it was me tracking it so i kept it super minimal. and...completely forgot the first breakdown somehow... haha

not a bad mix, but in no way is this anything like joey's mixes.

There's no reason to try to sound like him imo, unless you're just starting out recording bands. I use to go for that sound when i first started, but now i've been trying to focus on coming up with my own sound. Joey's stuff sounds awesome, and he's truly developed his own sound, but you can only go so far cloning something that the originator does better.

I like to compare it to being in a band. Most new bands start out mimicking their favorite band's writing style. After years of writing, most bands start developing their own style/sound.
