"joey clone" mix withOUT any pod or slate, tehe

not a bad mix, but in no way is this anything like joey's mixes.

There's no reason to try to sound like him imo, unless you're just starting out recording bands. I use to go for that sound when i first started, but now i've been trying to focus on coming up with my own sound. Joey's stuff sounds awesome, and he's truly developed his own sound, but you can only go so far cloning something that the originator does better.

I like to compare it to being in a band. Most new bands start out mimicking their favorite band's writing style. After years of writing, most bands start developing their own style/sound.

you're a stand up, honest dude Brian! +1 to all of that and a big +1 to all of your recent work. shit is intense...

This is mix sounds awesome, not like joey (said i know) but this style works for you. Work on it more. I see this style going in a great direction.

natural amps, and drums. Kudos

make samples, indivually of each drum if you have not done that already.
For my snare currently have been working on, I have two Sm57s one top and one bottom and 2 Overhead mics, all with different eq.
It really makes a huge difference, esp the 2 overhead mics. I haven't even tried toms, or kick.
Go for it though^ If you haven't messed with it already.

tbh i'm waiting for the day you switch to mic'ing amps, so people stop asking for your god damn pod patch.

;)

was your snare strip silenced or is that just the gate? I would add some release time to it since it sounds like it's being chopped off.

yea i just gated super fast and just relied on the z4 sample for the room tail. i can't hear it getting cut anywhere though, i'll hafta take a closer listen. i've been using this method a ton lately.

Needs more Snare 12Z1, Screamer/Treadplate/Condenser and Autotune graphic mode. I'm not feeling the gayness enough, this actually sounds like music the way humans may perform it.

i think i love you

finally listened to this, aside from the horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE music (these guys need to kill themselves immediately) i really like this mix
i really like how you take typically very sterile sounding genres and give them really "real" sounding production
really liking the snare, don't spose i could trouble you for a sample? reminds me of the default AD snare but not shit

i didn't take dry samples without the rest of the kit, i never think to do that until it's too late... o_o the entire snare track is what the raw mic got, and then a little bit of room sample triggered in
