ha....I had loud popping noises coming from it and had it replaced with a brand new one, same thing happened. I've been hearing on the net that there have been problems with them. So I'm going 6505+...hopefully it will be the same as my 5150 II. So anyone have feedback on the 6505+???

Are Peavey in the process of fixing this? I was looking into buying one this year....but not so much now.

I have a 6505+. Just got it about a month ago new. I had a voodoo modded 5150 before the 6505+. I am diggin this way more.

Yeah man...Peavey is sending me the 6560+ in return(gotta wait a month tho) The 2 that I had were defects...dosen't mean you'll have the same problem.

Cheers man, thanks for the reasurance. Just quite bizare that you had 2 (!) of the same amp blow up on you.

The first one was making noises during power up.....after just having it for a few hours. I returned it to the store within a few days. The second was way worse. I tried different outlets and configurations to be sure it wasn't my doing and other troubleshooting methods. I made an mp3 soundclip and sent it to Peavey. They told me to send the tubes that it was the preamp tubes. I sent all power and preamp tubes to be swapped for new. In the meantime, I bought all JJ tubes(power and pre) out of my own pocket, to see if it would be of any significance.....no go. Also, I want to mention, I'm in no way bashing Peavey since I've had products before(5150) without incident. I guess I got a bad batch that were manufactured unless the link on the first post may shed some light on why perhaps.

here's the mp3 http://www.acidplanet.com/components/embedfile.asp?PID=727391&embed=1&t=5561

no it didn't start right away, It was something I noticed a week later. It did that during powerup with standby engaged for at least 5 minutes....and it was fine after that. I thought it got progressively worse in the days to come. The recording is when it was at it's worst.

Hi guys...

I have one on loan, and it has performed flawlessly. Great sounding amp, and the clean channel is awesome as well. I would say you're probably right - it was most likely a bad batch, which is never good. I will be passing this thread along, and I can assure you that there are people who care a lot about the fact that there are these kinds of problems showing up on the boards...

Best,

Doug
