Just curious... (ReWire and Pro Tools question)

We all know ReWire and how it transfers audio and timecode between 2 programs but could it be possible to use it to slave another DAW (such as Ableton) into Pro Tools LE to have more inputs? Like, using a non Digidesign interface in Ableton and rewire those tracks to PT.

I know this will work when you only use Ableton as a playback DAW but will it work on the fly?

Yes and no

You can use it for more tracks, but not more inputs.

You'd get 16 stereo inputs from the rewire slave. The rewire slave won't have any inputs.

no ins, but apparently you can rewire meoldyne for extra tracks.

reaper works well for more tracks.
I think 48 is plenty personally. You'll likely have to split the tracks across multiple drives to get them all playing without errors.

but you can track in Reaper or something, then just dump the tracks into PT.

Unfortunately, tracking in anything other than PT is no fun.

I guess I'll just use Logic to record atm and edit my tracks in Pro Tools until I can add a 003 to the setup.

Wait... Why do you need more inputs?

I understand more playable tracks (and ability to put effects on them), but more inputs sounds crazy to me.
