just uploaded my last song...

4 years active, 4 years reserves. after 3 years of active, I can re-up for another 4 to start after my 4th. my goal is to keep adding 4 year shindigs until it hits 20 years and i can retire

As much as I couldn't stand the thought of joining any military, the ability to retire in your 40s really is pretty awesome.

That's 4 years inactive reserve, right? The standard enlistment?

If you decide to get out after 4 years, you're basically a free man and you can do whatever you want. They just put you on 4 years inactive reserve in case they need to recall you for another world war or something. You're not in the active Reserves or anything, like one weekend a month, two weeks a year weekend warrior kinda thing.

If I might make a suggestion, add the extra years in two year stints. You'll get more frequent and higher re-enlist bonuses. I've many friends and family members in the service (one of whom actually just retired after 22 years SEAL), and they all suggested this to me when I was considering going Army AMEDD Officer.

Cheers,
Richard

hmmm! I'll give that a go, then. I don't think they're offering any re-enlistment bonuses at this time, but that may change later on. If that's the case when the time comes, I'll do that!

Remember Travis, Will? He's been training to join The Marines. But when he went to enlist they informed him any drug misdemeanors on your record, and you can't get in any military branch as of 4 months ago. Apparently, too many people are trying to get in.

As far as I know, there are VERY VERY few jobs in the Navy available. The waiting list is crazy.
