I just had a listen to the all the ep sessions from the great cold distance, and It struck my hard that they are ready for yet another revolution for the next release. A lot of bands especially with a metal background most in fact have this silly notion of being confined to a set genre or they try to change, but just don't know how to quite express themselves in other ways, and ultimately return to their safe haven, and just retread old ground. I've always been proud of katatonia for not being afraid to progress, and have always been successful at it being that they're true musicians. But I feel something truly big is on the horizon for the next release. If I'm correct they will hold no bars, and let set all their musical ideas no matter the style or genre to stone this next release. If they truly make the next album experimental then this will be a definitive if not the definitive album for them. I'm eagerly awaiting the masterpiece.

I know this all sounds a bit preachy even for my tastes, but I just wanted to put it out there that as a fan I'm eager to hear katatonia doing something I know they have in them, and that is to break new ground. I'll support you guys where ever you want to go cuz I know you'll be capable of whatever may come.

We hold no quarter.

It seems that our salient has become quite the little internet salesman, woman or thing, and continues the trend of making even less sense with each post. Salient what are you trying to say here buddy? Is this like some cryptic s.o.s. transmission from the cold war from some bunker outside of Russia, and you need help, or you just really want people to buy viagra online?

Agreed. I'll support Katatonia in whatever direction they decide to pursue, but an album with the atmosphere of The Great Cold Distance EPs would be ideal.

I like unfurl better than any song on tgcd, and especially like dissolving much better than anything off the cd.

I think Katatonia will continue the style off of TGCD, only now a bit more focussed on simplicity and using slightly more electronics.
That's my prediction. I really liked the electronic beats style of Code against the code and of Unfurl (damn, this song has sooo many fuzzy nice warm sounds)

I hope for more "atmospheric" keys throughout the entire cd since it would really add to the thickness of the layering. Some electronic beats would also be cool.

Well take a song like unfurl or code against the code for example, and just use more dynamics. Like build ups, that get more intense you know with way more progressive song structures, but keep the heavy layered atmospheres, and experimental aspects. Also I'd like to see the bigger choruses return that seemed to be lacking in tgcd such as teargas, sweet nurse, criminals, evidence, will I arrive, wait outside.

Ofc they should do what they feel like doing first and foremost. Just throwing around some ideas.

I think the great songwriting and catchiness of LFDGD mixed with the newer simplicity of TGCD as said by Vincent, would be the greatest. Nevertheless, I'm sure it will be a killer.

Some simplicity mixed with the newer Toolish style would be cool. I dont want an Unfurl album, but a couple of calmer songs with acoustics and stuff would be good for the dynamics. I'm hoping for some more heavy riffing like in Consternation and Rusted.

Word!!

Leaders,My Twin,In the White,Deliberation,July,Follower they have all big choruses for me,so I think TGCD no way lacks big choruses. In the White's chorus is huge man, maybe the best chorus of Katatonia...But I do agree that the choruses of the songs you mentioned are different in some ways(simple maybe?) and I like it more that way.
