Kids don't know what the jazz is all about

I'm a sucker for Keith Jarretts improvised concerts e.g. the Köln Concert:

Those are some awsome clips guys. I like all jazz from the big band sounds as seen above in Dizzy or big band swing like Glen Miller... to smooth jazz like that earlier versoin of Take Five seen in the one clip to todays modern smooth jazz. Somehow however Im most drawn to the early days of fusion, not pure jazz but jazz made electric. I have Mahavishnu Orchestra stuff but I say forget them. Return to Forever was much better. Here is a great Return to Forever experience which features Chick Corea, Stanley Clark, Al DiMeola and Lenny White. "Duel of the Jester and the Tyrant" parts one and two, play them both back to back, this song grows and grows, theres alot of explosive interplay as they get further into the jamin'. DiMeola quickly proves he was the origional shredder far beyond the abilities of McLaughlin.

I love instrumental big band and hot jazz (the purely improvizational insane playing type shit). I also organ trios and some occasional smooth jazz.

Well how's about some recommendations then.

OK, I have tons of recs. You had mentioned in your first post that you wanted some recs from some various Jazz genres, but nost people are talking about more traditional Jazz. I'm not very big on Traditional Jazz, but I love John Coltrane & Chick Corea, however my scope on their material is rather thin. I will recommend "Coltrane's Greatest Hits" album for a lead way into his material. I need to get Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" myself.

Miles Davis is the god father of Fusion & I'm not familiar with him  Very technical Jazz/Rock oriented music which often has an emphasis on electric guitar (although that's not always where the emphasis is).

Allan Holdsworth (GOD)
Frank Gambale (Also played with Chick Corea. Frighteningly good guitarist who roots most of his music around Jazz)
Tribal Tech
Chad Wackerman
Bill Bruford
Shawn Lane / Jonas Hellborg
Al Di Meola (good, but not always one of my favs)
Brett Garsed / T.J. Helmerich (they did some excellent modern Fusion collaborations)
Dennis Chambers (his CAB stuff is great & he worked with Garsed & Helmerich)
Weather Report
Vital Information (Gambale on guitar on most of their catalog)

Also for some AMAZING ultra modern fusion inspired music check out Planet-X. Derek Sherinian has some good solo stuff as well (specifically "Mythology"). Planet-X is worth checking out after you fulfill your Jazz needs. All their stuff is good & it really grows on you.
