KISS: THE ELDER

I was a KISS fan when the album came out, a huge one. And of course, the Internet didn't exist yet, so I had no idea that it (or they) sucked - haha. Thank god for the internet, it teaches me time and again what sucks!

haha

Same here. I thought it was a kick-ass album. Definitely a step up from Unmasked which I still have fond memories of. I don't understand what people have against this album. I think it is still better than their later 80's stuff like Crazy Nights or Hot in the Shade which to me were just:puke:

I'm just feeling sorry for myself here, but I was robbed of Kiss as a kid in the 70's! I remember looking at those record covers and it was like, I WANT THAT! But my older brothers who steered my music direction talked smack about Kiss and pressured me away from them. Oh well.

I still look at those ablum covers and think of what could have been...

I really think it is Kulick's guitar work as far as what makes me like that era. I am not talking about technical skills and solos (though he is good) but I like his driving rhythms and tone better than Ace or Vinnie. Paul really takes care of his voice as well and he was in top form in the 80's where some singers would be falling off after so many tours. "I'll Fight Hell to Hold You" from Crazy Nights is one of Paul's best vocal performances I've ever heard.
I do "like" plenty of classic Kiss, but I think those two releases I named are their best efforts.

That's interesting..I prefer the classic KISS and love the Elder..however Asylum and Crazy Nights ARE good.

You don't hear often that some people think these are the best years, though everybody knows these fans are out there.

Makes me wanna toss one of these on for a long overdue spin.

That was my problem PM with Hot in the Shade..was that it was too long...I REALLY have to be in the mood for this before I play it. After all these years it's a hard one to re-call songs off the top of my head as well..outside of the singles,Silver Spoon and Cadillac Dreams.

The Elder is far and away my favorite KISS album. In fact, it's probably in my top 20 of all time. I think the songwriting is brilliant throughout and still remain quite shocked that KISS actually wrote such cleverly progressive music. I always hoped they'd go back to that creative writing, but I know that's wishful thinking. KISS is all about money so after that failed experiment it was back to the simple hook and groove KISS songs they're so famous for. Too bad.

Music from The Elder RULES! Think I'll pull it out today and give 'er another listen. :kickass:

I love Crazy Nights and Hot In The Shade :D
I enjoy all KISS albums, actually, Asylum being my least favorite, but it does have some really good songs.
