From what I recall, Trivium was opening for Amon Amarth, and Amon Amarth was quoted as saying that they think that they should be opening for Trivium (due to Triviums greater popularity). [[I could be wrong on this... if so I apologize ahead of time]]
Slight correction. Amon Amarth went on first, Trivium second, and Children of Bodom was the headliner. It was Alexi of CoB who said the CoB should be opening for Trivium, here in the states.

So, would Pantera be considered a Metalcore band if they released "Vulgar Display of Power" in 2006? Because once again, I hear more musical similarities between LoG and Pantera than I do between Killswitch Engage and LoG.

EDIT: This is officially my last post in defense of Lamb of God or Trivium. I like what I like, and don't much care how others categorize what I like. For me, the horse is now dead. Cause of death, severe beating.

Funny you say that. I'm listening to that album right now. IMO. If a new group called Pantera showed up on the scene right now and released that album... as their first album, they'd become huge immediately. Its just that good, and timeless.

I agree with you. However, I'd also be willing to bet, that a fair number of people would rush to lump them into some disparraging category like Metalcore or NuMetal. They would take a look at Phil and think, "He's doesn't have long hair and he's not dressed in skin-tight leather pants... it aint Metal."

Fuck, all this "This band sucks, no your band sucks" debate shit is for the birds. Listen to what you want and be cool about others. You know what I'm gonna spin in my cd player today? Some Journey, a little bit of Monday Morning Apocalypse, Killswitch, some Shadows Fall, maybe if I'm feeling saucy a little bit ot Hubi Meisel and then some Power metal from my racks.

I'm a loser I know.

Ill go so far as to say, the second most overrated metal band of all time. First being Ozzy-era Sabbath.

(though at least I like most of Ozzy-era, as opposed to Pantera)

So, could you explain your reasoning for loving one of the most overrated metal bands of all time?

There is not one part of Pantera that I dont like, so by me saying I love the guitar solos and the overall style that Dime brought to the table its going to be a little redundant. However I also love Phil's vocal delivery and pure raw energy that he put into his performance. Rex I do admit not the best bass player by any means, but he gets the job done. the drumming is outstanding and Vinnie beats the living shit out of his kit.

Though I will agree that Ozzy era Sabbath is very overrated, because everyone knows the Dio ear stuff is the best. :headbang:

So why do you not like Pantera?

If you're a loser for that attitude, so am I because it's exactly how I feel as well. I personally don't care what bands someone does or doesn't like - it's all a matter of personal choice. For that matter, I can see people are wondering why someone posts about LoG here in the first place, since it's not likely to be a band loved by many 'round these parts (I mean, I like Fields of the Nephilim but I haven't started a thread about them...yet... :heh: ).

My main beef here is not liking a certain band or even disliking an entire subgenre of music - it's claiming that certain bands are not "true" metal because of personal taste. I might not like a lot of so-called nu-metal or metalcore (though I like some of it), but I don't see why those bands are not heavy metal bands...they just happen to be heavy metal bands that I happen not to like. I don't justify my taste by claiming that they aren't metal.

I remember back in the 1980's, Priest and Maiden fans were constantly ripping the glam metal bands for not being "true metal." These days, it seems accepted that a lot of "true metal" fans enjoy Warrant, Ratt, and Poison. It seems every few years, people decide to co-opt the term "heavy metal" to describe a narrow genre of music.

That's all fine. People SHOULD listen to what they want, but when you're posting stuff on forums, you're obviously asking for some kind of response. You are going to get both good and bad responses. People are going to comment, its just the nature of things. Nobody was saying people shouldn't listen to it.

As far as Pantera goes. They're metal, I just don't like them at all and I think they're really fucking overrated. They're still metal though. Do I have to like a band for it to be metal? No.

I crank my Depeche Mode and Mike Oldfield with the best of em..
