I've recenty started experimenting with recording preamp signals so I can use impulses. Anyway, on my Laney when I turn the channel(B - drive) volume up past 5 or 6 the signal is clipping when it reaches my card. I'm sending it to a line level input using regular unbalanced instrument cable. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, is it okay(non damaging) having my amps effects loop in insert mode and turning the return level to 0 so that barely any sound is coming through the cab?

Any help/info will be much appreciated. Thx. Will.

Well, you should probably send it to a pre-amp first, and then into your card, so you can adjust the output gain. Or use a THD hotplate. I imagine the volume is overloading the line level input on your card - these amps are LOUD!

As long as there is load on the amp, then turning the return level to zero wont damage your amp or cab. You cannot use your amp without plugging into a cab or attenuator though!

I love my VH100r :D

If he's cranking the amp that loud, I can imagine that it's really overpowering the input on his soundcard - quite easy to do with line level if your source is very hot.
