Holy shit. I am watching the Rock in Rio tv feed and it is just painful to watch Lars Ulrich play drums. He is speeding up things randomly just too much. Fuel was around 10bpm (if not more) faster than the disc version. The number of mistakes is just absurd. no , it is not absurd, it is sad.

I know Dude, and Kirk missing so many notes, bad played solos, detuned guitar harmonies etc. etc. really bad show.

The show was bealtiful 3 and some hours of show (I slept on the third and woke up on the last song), but watching Lars was just....sad.

James, on the other hand, was awesome. He is just such an awesome guitar player.

kidding? fuel 10 bpm faster is like nothing, since it has ~210bpm and it's an uptempo song.. and most bands play uptempo songs faster live than they did in the studio (and not because they can't play it in the right tempo). that's live, that's the way it's supposed to be, dude.

I am just sayint 10bpm at the top of my head eheh both kirk and james clearly couldnt play some parts because it was TOO fast.

Lars did a huge mistake on Seek and Destroy - James looked at him and started laughing really hard lol

Well, i think that james right hand technic is awesome, as he does just downstrokes on blackened (0:36) (and sings too):

Listening on laptop speakers is horrible. Why are the hihats so loud? It drowns out everything else and Lars is so inconsistent with holding down the tempo on it.

Even on Cunning Stunts they fucked up every song and had tempo issues. Same thing for Binge and Purge and Kirk's guitar is almost definitely out of tune on the entire Seattle set. Listen to a live version of Sanitarium from the mid 80's and you'll hear Lars speed the chorus up by like 60 BPM. I guess what I'm getting at here is a show like this is par for the course for them. I think the biggest difference between now and 20 years ago is the energy and intensity they give off on stage.

Normally when you go see bands live a lot of stuff slips your ears cause of the atmosphere and generall awesomeness of live-events, so little fuck ups here and there aren't noticed that much...at least by me.

But at the last few metallica concerts I was I even recognized that Lars and Kirk pull off MAJOR BS constantly.
James usually sounds pretty cool live, and his playing is cool too, but when I look at live concerts or videos/audio of the same concerts I was I'm pretty surprised that even he doesn't sound exactly "good" all the time (wtf is up with his vocals on the rio clips??)
It's really sad, cause I think it wasn't that bad 4-5 years ago then it is now...or maybe it was, I dunno.
I skiped the last 2 chances to see them live, one was even at a festival but it started to rain so I listened to it sitting in a cosy tent with a few beers.
The other one was just overpriced shittyness in general.
First time I saw them live I was so excited, and now I even think I avoid to see them live or live vids, just to not ruin my memory
Also: fuck ups a lot more noticable that way then staying in front of the stage.

James was mostly awesome on yesterday´s concert. His right hand speed is impressive when playing rhythm. Kirk was screwing up a lot of stuff because of Lars playing so fast. Me, my wife and my buddy were watching it and when every solo was about to begin we always said ´No way he can play this thing this fast...´ and BAM, lots of mistakes. Stuff was just too fast.

Maybe they just don't need to put in any effort or practice these days because no matter how badly they fuck up the song the can crushers and weekend-warrior casual metallers will lap it up and pay dearly for the privilage.

From my experience, the majority of their crowd isn't even rock or metal.
Their name is big enough to sell to anyone.

what do you think, guitar tech fuck up?

Nope ... 2 volume controls, james fucked up and had the guitar in the neck position with the volume almost off. Has happened to me a few times on my Les Paul ... either that or his switch is going bad and it wasnt making full contact.

After he toggles it a few times he gets full signal back
