Lars....

I'm not a Metallica fanboy in any sense, but sometimes I just don't get why some guys act so pretentious when it comes to them... I mean their the biggest metal band ever, maybe they hat some shitty outputs, but still.. why disrespecting them? if you don't like em, ignore them.

is there another way to play it?

Hell no.
Though the A# in the intro-riff logically makes more sense to be alt.picked. :err:

Metallica shows still feel awesome to be there. The recordings are pitiful and you kinda feel cheated when you hear the actual performance that you just paid to see, but the show felt so great you don't regret it. It must be the sheer love I have for their songs (first 4 albums) since they were such a huge part of my teens. But man, how metal has advanced since then.

what the hell is going on here?

for those who does not appreciate the fore-fathers of heavy metal, you might want to check out the new forum! and GTFO

iv'e seen metallica live twice over the last year and a half, first time in israel which was a GOOD show but yeah they fucked up quite a lot especially kirk on most clean parts. still worth every penny!

the second time this june at sonisphere UK :yow: and they were fucking amazing! this time they were MUCH better. they didn't fuck up a single note and were fucking TIGHT! they did change some riffs and played a bit different than the album version but that's what i love about LIVE shows, I DID NOT PAY 190 POUNDS TO HEAR THE FUCKING ALBUM, and that's one of the things that makes their show SOOOOO good.
it was definitely the best show iv'e ever been to and probably will till i see them again.

and lars is fucking awesome!
WHY???????????????????????????

because simplicity is ingenious!
iv'e realized he's a genious when someone poited out to me that he does not have a RIDE cymbal in his kit, and have never played one on any of their albums! (haven't checked, but can't recall a song with a ride cymbal)
he keep the song's/show's energy going with SNR+BD+HH (lot's of HH), tom fills, and extra snare hits upon request. that's it!
he knows what he should play at the right time and does not fill every 1/16 note with his fucking legs.
knowing what to play when, and what the listener EXPECTS to hear and WANTS to hear is the ability which makes the Black album play on my mp3 player 20 years after it was released.

and that's the bottom line
(let the shit-storm begin...)

:D Still listen to the black album and enjoy it and everything before it. But I don't think that four people are capable of being gods (or being without fault whatsoever), they just play musical instruments.

Mark Zonder all the way :D Some will say that his style is not simple, but in fact he never overplayed things and always did only as much as the song needed.

When a band comes up as arrogant and cocky as Metallica, then it should be allowed to laugh and point at all of the mistakes they made.

Seriously, arrogance is a behaviour I absolutely can't stand, and pretty much every interview/report/concert I saw was full of it.

I have to say, nothing about Metallica's Rock in Rio concert sounds "tight", but listen to Kirk's solo on Blackened...wow...

2:57 - 3:01 sounds like a ride to me

not gonna try digging up a shit ton of videos to prove this wrong but I know my drummer would always switch to the ride in this part and it was just the 1st thing to pop in my head. You do appear to be right for the most part but this is also from Lars' wiki:
"Note: Ulrich will occasionally use a 22" A Custom Ping Ride when playing live. He has also used splash cymbals in past tours."

And just so you don't think I'm taking sides ... my drummer I'm talking about is from the vintage Metallica & Thrash tribute band I'm in ... errr, was in :p

Arsenu, I don't think anyone here is disputing the fact that Metallica, at one point, was quite possibly the biggest (not just metal) band on the planet. For me, they are the reason I started playing guitar and consequently the reason I am involved in music period. I still have an unbelievable amount of respect for them and the influence they had on, what is very likely, a vast majority of the musicians on this forum. The issue is that, in the last few years, they have become almost a parody of themselves. Jame's vocals, Kirk's solos and Lars' drumming and the new stuff they are writing in general are almost laughable at this point. For me, I started losing respect for them when the whole Napster thing came about. Yes, I agree with them on the fact that it is their music and it is wrong to steal it but it seemed like they were bitching just to bitch. Obviously, this is just my opinion but I'm sure most who have commented similarly in this thread will agree with me.

BOBBY JARZOMBEK over Lars.

Anyway, I saw Metallica live this year and they were very good, but Lars was going out of tempo everytime. This quite irritates me, because on the albuns is just perfect. (OK they dont need to be perfect live, but at least good, not going too much out of tempo).

James guitar playing is awsome.

Q : how many metallica fanboys does it take to change a lightbulb??
A : none, they just wait for it to burn out and then follow it around the country blindly for 20 years....

;)
