Ryan, you seem to forget that obviously, all the great bands have once been local bands.

I've attended probably between 75 and 100 gigs of locals band during the last three years, and there are really good bands out there. Of course some of them can't play for shit, but I really wouldn't say 99/100 of the bands are bad. Not much of these bands sound like famous bands either. Most bands are really creative and original.

Besides, maybe you'll really like one band and think the other one is shit, when somebody else will think the exact opposite.

It's a matter of opinion.

Last (for CliffBurton who doesn't want local bands): Vader and Marduk, still pissed it was damn boring Marduk headlining and Vader playing a short set. They should have totally switched positions.

Next: Either Crucified Barbara (not sure I'll go) or Sonata Arctica.

Edit: Oh, and don't remember heathenfest, got too drunk.
OpenerX (forgot name), and Vreid, were really good, but after that is a blur, and we left after Alestorm.

They broke up 2003, came back 2005 but weren't that active, drummer and guitarist left the band spring 2009 and now they got new ones and have been touring in Finland during this fall.
