Last CD you bought

The last CD I bought was 'Operation: Mindcrime' by Queensryche. I used to dislike that album, years ago, but now I really enjoy it. It gets stuck in my head like nothing else.

Before that, it was some albums by Black Sabbath, Yngwie Malmsteen, Gorgoroth, Exodus, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Esoteric... a lot of stuff. I've been on a 'classic' (70s and 80s) metal binge lately, so Maiden and Sabbath have been getting a lot of listens, with Priest being markedly less, but still there. And lots of Queensryche. (And some good ol' Blind Guardian, too.)

this happening is what manly made me decide not to collect lps:
i'm big mercyful fate/king diamond fan....some years ago i found this beautiful lp, called nuns have no fun....i asked for the price...the guy told me "300.000 lire" we had still the lira, into euro is about 150 €...

How rare was it? I mean, if it was some super rare LP, then I can see why it was worth so much...

I don't collect rare LPs or vinyls myself, but some bands (re: Mercyful Fate / King Diamond) are worth shelling out big bucks for their earlier stuff. Think about it... in 50 years, when you're looking back at your collection, and you have the freakin' Nuns Have No Fun LP, when no one else does, it will be a piece of rock history. That's a band has had so much influence, yet how many people (maybe outside of Emperor / Ihsahn) will really claim that they had a huge influence on their music? If you had bought that LP, it would have made you a visionary! =)

Edit: I also treat my LPs like shit. I regret that I do, but I'm really messy, so they have no hope!

Bought Cynic - Focus (again :S).

About the LP's...I like them but they require too much care (more than the digis), so I don't collect them. I have neither time for that, nor space to keep them properly. I have TONS of tapes (more than 1000 I think) kept on a very old and freakin big vault, collecting dust, spiders and stuff like that, but it's great to take one of them (like a very old-rare one) and remember all the 'history' it has, like my first time I heard the bandl, how many years I have it and so.

I collect CD's better cause they are more funtional and easier to take care of (and the sound quality is great, but I agree with Defiance about the LP's sound...I like more the LP's sound than the CD). Anyway, there are a lot of rare cd's to collect (specially those limited hand numbered digis on black metal - if the band used blood instead ink to write the number, the best XDDD), but I don't think I have something sooo rare...maybe the first press of Burzum's s/t, via DSP is the most rare cd I have.

wow dude, the only LP I own is the limited white version of Ulver's Shadows of the Sun, because it was in the special package and I wanted the limited grey t-shirt (and signed photograph)! :)
I don't even have a record player but I bought it anyway, hehe. doubt it'll sound better than the cd, though.

:) . Ohhhh I wanted to buy that version of Ulver's CD, it cost about $110 at The Omega, I remember clearly. I really wanted it, I love items that come with wooden boxes. I also want one of Agalloch's CD that is like that, it comes with bone fragments and stuff o_O .

i'm too chaotic, i say you....
i'm able to put two or three cds into the same jewelcase sometimes....and then i find empy cases and start to shout up and down the house "where the fuck is myyyyyy cdddddd???????" i'm idiot, i do chaos and hope that someone resolves it......i care of my stuff even if it can seem the contrary, it's just that i have my own method
i will not take all the care that an lp needs... so it's better i don't have any....
i don't have a lp recorder too...so....
and what i like of cds is that you can bring them with you everywhere, you can listen in the car, without any particular care, just put them in your bag....

You should say "I tell you" instead of "I say you" ;) .

Three CDs... in one case? I hope not original ones, that would be... very stupid (so not to use nasty Italian words hehe). I've done that but with copy CDs and they've gotten really scratched (but still, somehow worked), but never with original ones. It's even better to just leave them on the floor without any cover IMO.

¡Bien, Cynic es excelente!

Apropos, I just bought:

Cynic: Traced in Air (ltd. box 1000 copies, crazy expandable shirt o_O ). :headbang: Awesome album, too short, but really amazing.

Oh yeah LPs require a lot of care, the LP itself is quite resistant to weather conditions and other stuff, it's the cardboard case that really gets damaged. And yes, their sound quality is better, you just need a good stereo system and well... a turn-table of course :p . But yeah, there're definitely very rare CDs too.

Here are some pics of my LP, DVDs and digis collection:

I'm actually planning of kidnapping all of my dad's LPs, he's got some really cool Bruce Springsteen ones (5 LP box o_O). The problem is that it'd take a lot of space of my furniture, so I wouldn't have place for my DVDs and boxes. And that cannot be, especially with the latter. I can somehow move the DVDs... but I'll have to work on that.

Ah yes good ol' Blind Guardian, every stage is great IMO :) . I actually liked Queensryche's release from the start :p , quite good. I haven't listened to it in a long time though.

Iced Earth - Slave To The Dark

It's a 5000 copies lim. ed. box including:

Burnt Offerings (2cd)
Days Of Purgatory (2cd)
The Dark Saga
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Alive In Athens (3cd, 1dvd)

Great artwork, and all cd's are put in gatefold packages and made to look like LP's (just to continue the LP vs. CD discussion :))

I thought that box was quite cheap to be honest. And isn't the DVD badly produced or something? Anyhow, that DVD is a farce since the video is from Athens, but the audio… from Wacken  .

Yeah but they're still not LPs :p . The LP box-set of Alive in Athens is very nice actually.

Well, I'm quite aware they're not LP's, I just think it looks good dressing them up as LP's, that's what I meant. About the DVD; I wouldn't know, I haven't seen it yet. The price was (and I bought it at the show, may be cheaper outside) almost 160 euro's, so not so cheap in my mind. Of course, there's alot in it, so may be cheap for the single disc if you count it that way. 10,50 euro's/disc isn't that much I suppose, but the collected price is high, at least for my pressed economy :)

lol

that didn't stop me from buying a couple of albums recently

food is overrated ;)

Yeah man I was buying upwards of 5 CDs a week for a while, and that, cobined with loan repayments, bills, and the *cough* occasional slab of beer:kickass:, just became too much. And alas, i had to give up the cds for a while. Just until I get on top of things ;)

I know what you meant ;) .

Still, I think that box is not good, it's one more way of CM to get some £££. I bought a similar box, the one of The Gathering ('cause I'm an über-TG fan), and still was quite disappointed with it.

A couple of questions about said box:
- Does every CD come with its own booklet?
- Are the CD "cases" digis or more promo-like?

I already have the Dark Genesis box, so I don't need to buy that one. Anyhow, new IE sucks horribly, even the return of Matthew Barlow couldn't save it. And judging from the stories of the last two discs, has Schaffer become a Scientologist?

I ain't bought a CD for a while, I'm too poor. It's so depressing.

Keep it up! :)

food is overrated ;)

Har har I love food, but the thing is that I don't drink too much (I can't anyhow). So I'm not lime most guys here that as soon as they get paid they spend it all on Imperial and Pilsen (CRn beers). I drank a lot of beer when I was in Europe, but I bought ca. 60 CDs on that trip (roughly €600 I'd say. As my German friend said once: "I never seen anyone buy some many CDs at once.").

And we all hope you can start buying good music again :) :headbang: .

A couple of questions about said box:
- Does every CD come with its own booklet?
- Are the CD "cases" digis or more promo-like?

1. Almost, only the double disc's are missing booklet's but have the lyrics printed on the inner sleeve (read explanation below) Iced Earth and Night Of The Stormrider are printed with all of the differrent covers they've had through time, and Night Of The Stormrider also has a written explanation by the artist why that album has so many different versions...

2. Also in the covers, they are immitating LP's. All are packed in miniature double LP sleeves (I believe gatefold is the correct term, correct me if I'm wrong). Inside these one side is reserved for the booklet, unless it's one of the doubles, and the other contains the CD in an extra cover, just as with LP's. The DVD only comes in a normal paper cover, like promos.

I know record companies like to rip people of by re-releasing albums all the time, Iced Earth has a couple of compilations as well. Still there are a number of reasons why we (my girl and I) chose to buy it - Between us, we only had Burnt Offerings and half of Days Of Purgatory before so it was a good way to get the back catalogue; we were tripping on a great show; and, most imortant of all - we were drunk and had a credit card...

does anyone own or have seen open the Tiamat cds box called The Ark of the Covenant ????
i've seen it in a shop and it's quite cheap, and also nice to the look....the price is 54 € which is quite low for 12 cds and one dvd (nearly all Tiamat's discography) but i fear that cds don't come with their own jewel case.
the box is too small for containing all the 13 cds with cases and a 72-pages booklet...i suppose they are in small envelopes, thing that i don't like :erk:
can anyone confirm this theory?

Hahaha ok  ! I guess it's worth it if you didn't previously own any IE albums, but if you did/do it's not.

thanx for the link with the photo....they are promo-style then...

It does looks like a nice box, but I'm pretty sure they're promo style (like The Gathering's box).

I was enjoying the LP discussion, but it's dead :( .

i've just put my hands on the new cronian cd today :D
finally i've an original copy   the booklet is sooo nice....
about fission, the guy who tried to order it for me have been said "out of official distribution" :erk:

I agree, the Cronian booklet looks very nice.
Concerning Fission: Again, have a shot at cdbaby. I was hesitating first as well but you'll have the disc in like two weeks and even though the cd is being shipped from the US it's not even pricy. And above all you'll love the album :)

i don't have a credit card....i suppose it will be hard to buy something without any form of possibile payment
