Last CD you bought

Samael - Above (moving closer back to their black roots than their latest 3-4 albums)

Iron Maiden - Ed Hunter (everybody knows them. incl. eddie pc-game)

Iced Earth - The Crucible Of Man (Something Wicked part II) ((digipak) american heavy/power metal band with a thing for concept albums)

Tiamat - Amanethes (swedish gloomy goth with roots in death metal, with weird inputs from time to time. actually, I only had this for about a minute or so before my girl took it back cause she wanted it herself...)

Dia Psalma - Gryningstid (Swedish punk/folk rock. This is the third time I bought this record; first back in -94, then someone stole it from me. Last time, the record fell out a window and smashed)

Samael - Reign Of Light (Swiss goth/electro metal band. Not a very good record IMO, but it was cheap as hell)

Ha, I actually should get a new Gryningstid as well. Borrowed it out at one time, and now it's pretty scratched and the cover is busted...

So you don't like Reign Of Light? I actually liked that album right from the start, had a bit harder time with Solar Soul but it has grown on me over time. Still, Passage is by far their best album (think I'm gonna go put that on right now actually)!

Tyr - "Land" - The new album was the best ever, but I heard Land and was totally blown away.

DRAUGEN:
Holy shit! I never knew of anybody else that listens to Dia Psalma. This is cool that you do. Do you like Ultima Thule too or like umm... Roxette?

Just saw Týr yesterday, man a good show. Way to short though, only nine songs on the setlist, and they gave one extra encore. They played one new song as well, which was great, so I'm really looking forward to the new album coming next month.
Btw, Land is the latest album (so far), which one do you mean?

We are actually a couple of Dia Psalma fans in here, well at least Draugen and myself. Don't know about anyone else...

I thought that "How far is Asgaard" is the latest? I use to be into them back in "Ragnorok" days, but I fell out for a while. I saw them not too long ago too, just a few weeks ago. Good show, but short like you said.

Dia Psalma is great. Most people I say that I am a fan, they frown. Hehe. But they are playing in Karlshamn I think this month I think. I'd love to see them. If or when I ever do, I hope they play "Balladen om lilla Elsa".
I'm waiting for a festival they have here in USA called "Maryland Deathfest". Enslaved, Marduk, Mayhem, Bolt Thrower, and many many more. Although, I'm mainly going to see Enslaved.

how far to asgaard is their first album

land is the last one!

edit: i didn't like land, it seemed quite boring and weak.
i saw tyr some months ago, nice show, i conquered the song-list paper (which is the right word in english???)

Naglfar - Vittra (melodic black metal), excellent album, the best from this guys IMO (with peter Tägtgren doing some vocals here and there)

Darkthrone - Hate Them (their last good album IMO)

Vittra was traded for one of my two Storm - Nordavind t-shirts.

Hate Them was traded for one of my Nargaroth - Amarok t-shirts.

Edit: I forgot Behemoth - The Apostasy. The black metal sound is totally gone...now they sound like a lost Nile's brother. Zos kia Kultus seems to be their last great album.

YES.

Tyr and ABBA. :headbang:

You are my new Vintersorg forum best friend. (Sorry, Mr. V :) )

If you get the chance, see Tyr live. They won't disappoint.

Well, yes and no, actually. How Far is their first album, although they have just re-released it, and that version is their latest release right now.

I believe setlist is the most common term...

And rigth now they have new armour and everything! We'll post pics from the show as soon as we get through the pile of shows stacking up on our desk right now...

Was a really huge fan of Samael up to Passage, and I agree with you that Passage was their best album (imo one of the five best albums of the 1990s)... I have most their albums since then, except for Above and Solar Soul, and I think they've become a really terrible band.

To each his own, I suppose. I found Reign of Light to be a very, very, very, very, *very* bad album. It was one of the few times I bought a CD and felt that someone had stolen my money. I never got Solar Soul, because I had felt they had been stealing my money since Exodus.

Vittra is a rockin' album. The live cover of the Evil That Men Do on that album is pure sex. Sheol is a really good album, too, if you like that band. After Sheol their music gets really boring, sort of a Dimmu Borgir clone. Pariah is really monotonous (and has hilariously lame song titles)...

Uriah Heep - "Demons and Wizards" (vinyl) - Horns up to the masters.

Cradle of Filth - "Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder" (great improvement, by
the way, love the album!) - long time fan that has more respect for them

Lee Aaron - "Call of the Wild" - wonderful vocalist.

Sarah Brightman - "A Winter Symphony" - more of a christmas album but anything of this woman is good and I will love forever.

Vikingarna.

Hey nice buying! We have good taste ;), although I didn't like Brightman's last CD. I agree, the new CC was quite an improvement, it's actually a good record!

And Qu Appelle and I are the biggest Abba fans of the world (har har). Abba rules. And for some reason I called my grandpa that. Weird because he didn't like the band at all hehe.

Oh and tell me more about this "Dia Psalma," they seem quite interesting :) .

On the time when the albums were released, I liked Naglfar a lot until Diabolical/Ex Inferis (which I still own). I'll try Sheol then.

Vittra was one of the many albums I lost when I fought with a friend (who I don't meet anymore). It's frustrating to buy again some albums.

I found the 2 albums from Throne Of Ahaz, On Twilight Enthroned and Nifelheim. I had them on mp3 since 10 years ago . Really good melodic black metal (with some symphonic elements), a lot of riffs (good ones) on each song, great vocals... a very enjoyable band for the ones that don't know it.

Well, I can't say about Exodus, as I've never heard the entire album. Had high hopes after Passage, but was dissapointed after seeing the video for Infra Galaxia so I haven't bought it yet. Probably will someday, to complete the collection...

Above however is a definite step back towards darker days. They themselves label it as the missing link between Ceremony Of Opposites and Passage. I'm not sure about that, but the songs are much more in line with the old stuff than their newer albums. Guitar driven, fast drum beats, and the keyboards are much more in the back. Just agressive I'd say...

Oh and tell me more about this "Dia Psalma," they seem quite interesting :) .

Well, they are a Swedish punkband, which made it big with their first album Gryningstid (was played all over the radio and TV) back in the 90ies. Made one more full length, a bunch of singles which were compiled as their third album, and essentially toured themselves to death.
Had an about 10 year long break-up, but are back again and have since released two more albums.

IMO the thirst three, Gryningstid, Efter Allt and Sell Out are the ones really worth checking out. The two new ones, Djupa Skogen and Re Voltere are good as well but does not reach the same heights as the old material.
The old ones were pretty melodic, and had strong parts with violin and other instruments you wouldn't immediatly bind in with punkrock, as well as the most catchy refrains ever written, whereas the new ones are much more traditional garagy punkrock.

here's a link for their myspace so you can check them out for yourselves:
www.myspace.com/diapsalmaofficial

For all of you who wish to learn Swedish, I would recommend giving them a listen as well.
Their language is more current than that found on Vintersorgs and Otygs albums (as these typically represent older times), and their lyrics are well written, and give some insights into Swedish everyday life and ways of thinking.

OK thanks, I'm about to finish downloading their entire discography. I'm not really into Punk, but they seem like a good band. I'll show it to my friend, he'll probably appreciate it more :) .

Brightman's new releases are amazing. The Winter album is not as good as the original Symphony. Hands down. But my favorite release of hers is "As I came of Age" and even though this may seem stereotypical... Harem.

Hihi. ABBA is a great band, they deserve all of the best. Infact, I am listening to "Hej Gamle Man", great tune. It doesn't sound like the typical "Abba" you hear. It has more of a folk-like feel to it. It sounds like Tomas Andersson Wij or something.
May I suggest you some more bands?
My mother loves these bands, and even some younger generations of people.
Vikingarna, Sven-Ingvars, The Refreshments, Solar Plexus, Roger Pontare, Ainbusk, Kent, Malena Ernman, Rullar Fram. Some of these are like pop, inde, or what we call "dansband" stuff like that. Good stuff, I think. Some of it. Oh, and Roxette and H.E.A.T.!!!!

Let me know what you think.

Awesome, thanks a lot for the recommendations! :kickass: I don't have much space in my computer right now (1 GB hehe), but I'll somehow manage.

The only Swedish-pop band that I know besides ABBA is Ace of Base, which I also love. I grew up listening to Ace of Base, it really takes me back to my school bus hehe.

And hey they're from Göteborg too, just like Dark Tranquillity, which is awesome :headbang: .

I feel great that you are comfortable to say this in here. I've noticed that many metalheads don't listen to pop and if they do, they do not admit to this. We are two happy campers listening to Blind Guardian then listening to Markoolio. Hehe. He is a Finnish crazy pop singer. He did this song with Nordman once called "Vilse I Skogen".
I wish I had a fast connection, I would send you files of songs and artists that you may enjoy.
You know, since we're opening up about pop music. I also enjoy Rihanna, Fergie, Madonna, and Michael Jackson. Great voices they have.

+1 right here. Only have 5 or so songs, as it's impossible to buy Dia Psalma here and I have no credit card so thus cannot purchase on the net. *sigh*

And no-one forget about Eddie Meduza!

My hometown that is. I live about a 10 minute walk from where they will play. If you're thinking of coming and you need a place to stay, I have a lot of space. We should at least share some beers don't you think? :kickass:
Send me a PM if you're coming.

I don't like Rihanna nor Fergie, I like a few songs by Madonna though. And I've been a long time Michael Jackson fan, Thriller was probably one of the first CDs I ever bought hehe. But I pawned them all so now I am sorry. I sold the "History" 2 CD to a friend who passed on, so I guess that when it's fine with her parents I can go and get it back. But I don't want to look like a vulture, that's for sure. I loved her, so I don't think I'm ready for that either hehe.

Pet Shop Boys RULE! I love them! :kickass: They're releasing a new album this year actually! :)

I like Rihanna's "Unfaithful" :)
And it's high quality pop music in general although I don't really enjoy most of "her" (her producers') stuff.

Both Michael Jackson and Madonna are excellent musicians! :)
