Lead guitar tones

3:27 has always been my favorite lead, I'm pretty sure its more about how much i enjoy the song though

Maybe I'm a bit on the tacky side here, but I must admit I've always been partial to Zakk Wylde's chorus-effected Marshall lead tone, lol.

Gotta love those crazy stupid wide vibratos. :D

Get to :20 seconds.

That whole album has "weird" leads, some kind of synth-y sound. Love the lead on December flower though!

Yes, it bothers me a ton. You think they could've at least reversed the stereo on the music if they screwed up and put them on the wrong sides in the video.

If we're talking about a metal context:

Both Gus and Marios have great skills and feel, Marios vibrato is insane! The lead sound itself is only half of the equation..

Audio quality sucks but most of you would have heard it before right?

lol I was going to post that one, but I think these synth-y sounding leads just sound so amazingly textured.

That's because December Flower's leads were played by another guy, either one of their guitar tracking engineers or a local guitarist. Loved his second solo particularly, one of my favourites ever !

That said, I love most of that era's in flames sound. I love how they got a quite distorted sound that doesn't sound aggressive, and blends in the mix well. I can listen to a whole album relax this way, while many new modern productions make me tired after 15mn

Orianthi's lead tone sounds so PRS to me. Was it tracked with that PRS or is it my eyes talking to my ears ?

Paul Gilbert's lead tones are tasty too. I remember taking a shit in the Hellfest last year, while he was starting his first song. I didn't know he was playing, nor that he was even programmed. In the beginning I was "again a boring guitarist satisfying his ego on stage", and at the end of my shit I wanted to go out and check who the hell was that tremendous guitarist. He had the best lead tone I've ever heard live, and he played so flawlessly, it was such a pleasure after half the dozen of random shitty metal bands I could hear from my tent.

That is an amazing track, I remember reading an interview somewhere and they said that they used a 5150 and a JVM on the Orianthi record.

Gregor Mackintosh of Paradise lost has the best lead sound in my book. Shades of god, Icon, Draconian times... nothing can compare to that.

He plays Marshall now, but his best tones, at least for me, are from his Laney era.

His tone is the perfect example of Laney amps (VH-GH series).

I prefer a little less distortion on leads than a lot of people, I think it adds more 'guitar' to the guitar, sounds more woody I guess. EVH, Lynch and Gus G always have great tones.
Guthrie Govan is a master, how many people would kill to be able to play like that? I think he displays that tone is in the fingers. No matter what amp he plays through it sounds like him, same with the others too.

Ola I actually quite like your lead tones!
