Maybe I'm a fanboy, but I've been listening to my frenchy shit lately and it makes me realize why once-upon-a-time-before-Thrash I listend to only Black Metal.

NO MERCY FOR HUMANS!

I really like the Vlad Tepes stuff and Mutiilation from what I can remember, but Belketre didn't do much for me. Torgeist was okay. I never bothered exploring any further.

What's everyone's opinion on the Vlad Tepes/Belketre - March to the Black Holocaust split? I know it's considered a cult gem, but the question remains; is it any good?

are any of these bootlegs worth getting? it seems all of this stuff is rare or non-existent in CD format

There are still some newer stuff by Mütiilation availible which are not bootlegs, but other than that it's pretty hopeless unless one's willing to pay sillt amounts on Ebay. The CD releases made by Embassy seem to be especially expensive. Surprisingly, as far as I know there was not a lot of LLN material released on vinyl, apart from Mütiilation and some Torgeist material which was released on vinyl by Drakkar pretty recently.

As for bootlegs I think they're pretty common. The reason I was asking about the Vlad Tepes/Belketre split was that I found a cheap bootleg listed by a distro I'm considering ordering from

here's what ive found from just one distro:

Belketre - Ambre Zuetki Vuordrevartre (bootleg)
Vlad Tepes - La Morte Lune (bootleg)
Vlad Tepes - War Funeral March (bootleg)
Mutiilation - Rattenkönig (not a bootleg, the real deal)
Mutiilation - Vampires of Black Imperial Blood (bootleg)

Mutiilation- Remains of a Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul is what I suggest you get first because it's the best, imo.

Check out Celestia, not part of LLN, but a good french counterpart.

Also try to find some Splits, they normally are good for sampling a few LLN bands at a time.

yeah, i need celestia since i love mortifera

their Cave Full of Bats re-release is fairly easy to find. their full length will be re-released soon

Didn't all this stuff get recorded in some castle, only 88 copies were made, and shared between the bands only?

Aside from the novelty value of finding something rare, is any of this actually any good? People often find something ultra cult and rare tr00 3v1l omg, but in reality, it's pretty mediocre.

That's what I tried to find out with bumping this thread. But judging by the replies it seems none has bothered with actually listening to LLN. I think I shall go order that split CD anyway, since Tully (and Erik?) who has heard some LLN material is pretty abscent nowadays

Edit: Come to think of it, I actually have an extremly cultish LLN vinyl lying about which I've never really given a proper chance. Though I remember being rather underwhelmed with Torgeist, but somewhat more impressed with their split mates Vlad Tepes.
